The Cell
I'm sitting here
arms wrapped 'round myself
wondering how I ever
got locked in this cell.
The room is black as pitch,
wet and cold,
as all my hopes and dreams
grow distant and old.
The loneliness grows inside
as the jailer checks the locks on the gate.
I'm wondering why my life
is always hurry up and wait.
The jailer's cruel and cynical laugh
rings loudly in my ears.
I'm trapped inside a cell
that I've built for years.
Where is the key to unlock my fate
and open this self-imposed gate?
Its tucked away, down deep inside, out of harms way.
Hidden in my mind.
