In the early years the Kansa and Wyandotte Indians ruled in what is now called the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Now the Kansas City area totals a population of 1.7 million people. Kansas City played a major role in the American history as a gateway for the pioneers heading West along the Oregon, Santa Fe and California trials. Two hundered years ago Lewis and Clark, travelling on the Missouri river, passed Independence (part of the Kansas City Metropolitan area) to discover the West. It took them 3 months after they left St. Louis, Missouri. That same century trade, transportation, cowboys and gunmen controlled the Kansas City Area.
Kansas City is split by the State border of Kansas and Missouri. Although the name will let you believe that Kansas City is mainly in Kansas, it is not. Downtown Kansas City is in Missouri named after the Kansa indians and the Kansaz River. Downtown is being re-develloped and major changes will take place in the period of 2005 - 2008. The new headquarters of H&R Block and the new sport arena will change the Skyline of Kansas City. Southeast from Downtown is Crown Center, Union Station and the Liberal Memorial. From the memorial, that was build in honor and memory of the soldiers that fought in WWI, you have the best view of Kansas City. Crown Center offers shopping, dining and is the home of many Hallmark Cards attractions.

Kansas City - It's name make people tell me that there is nothing else than cows, cornfields, railroad tracks and tornados (Wizard of Oz). But I have experienced that Kansas City is far from that. With an area population of 1.7 million this city is a great experience for any visitor. I admit you have to look for it, but once you find it you will fall in love with Kansas City. The City of Fountains has great sport events, great shopping areas, a rich history and therefore interesting museums, great dining, entertainment and more. Kansas City is known for it's Blues and Jazz. During the summer you can enjoy Blues and Jazz music on the streets, in restaurants, bars and many other places. Along the Missouri and Kansas river you will find tope Casino's that offer a wide variety of entertainment. In other words, come and experience Kansas City.
