| Outreach- Central Texas
During the first weekend in March 2005 Tina and I took the cross and Fred (my pickup) through the Texas Hill country. I set my sights on carrying the cross in Kerrville, Bandera, San Antonio, San Marcos, and Austin. However due to weather I only carried the cross in Kerrville, Texas. We did however go with the pickup, covered with magnetic scripture signs all over it, and the large wooden cross in the bed, to Bandera, San Antonio, San Marcus, and Austin. While in Bandera, I was planning on carrying the cross late in the afternoon, however it rained. But God knew that he was doing because earlier in the morning Larry a cross carrier based out of Utopia, Texas was in Bandera carrying his cross. So a cross did get carried. As we traveled North on I-35 from San Antonio to Austin many people noticed the truck and waved. At almost any time we could watch the people passing by and see them reading the signs on the truck. Prayer Page Update The prayer site is going good, however there is still a need for other prayer warriors. If youd like to pray for a request just post a reply to the request to let the people in need of prayer know that you are praying for them. Earlier this month I had to remove a Spam on the prayer page, I apologize for the message that was on the site, I removed it as soon as I noticed it. Also I had to remove a prayer request due to the fact that the poster posted the addresses of her unsaved friends. Please keep this personal information personal! Last names and cities of people are ok, but not their home address. Even initials would be ok because God knows who they are and where they are. Thanks. Please bookmark the Matthews Ministry Prayer Page and check it weekly and pray for the requests. Using your talents to Glorify God. I have always had a talent for photography. I would have to say that this skill is truly a God given skill it comes so naturally. I recently have been trying to find ways to use this talent to glorify God. Tina and I started going to Chapter One a 20 something worship service. I e-mailed Lennon the leader and told him that I have a nice professional digital camera, and Im a talented photographer and Id like to take photographs for Chapter One. He said that he had been praying about having people come to Chapter One with skills in photography for publications they are developing for next year. So if you have a talent ask God to show you how you can use that talent to glorify him. He will open doors for you to use that talent for him if you allow him to. Please continue to pray for me as I continually try to use my skills to glorify God. New York, NY - There we went- Here we Come, again! One of the reasons this newsletter didnt get to your inbox sooner is that I have been struggling with how to describe the Mission Trip to New York. So let me try to describe this incredible event. We saw God move in many ways! Actually, to describe everything in detail would be a tremendous undertaking, so Ill give the basic gist. We got there on Saturday but we were all tired from the exhausting drive to Dallas and then the plane ride. So we just went to bed on Saturday. Sunday morning we got up and went to Times Square Church. It was really neat! It was huge and there were a lot of people standing because there wasnt enough room to sit. The people who were there must have really had a desire to be there in the first place. Next, we visited firehouses. We talked, prayed with and gave tracts to the firefighters. Please pray for these guys to see the need for Jesus. Our guide Kumar told us that because they are like the heros they dont see the need for salvation. Then we went to Ground Zero. I got to talk with a lady from Pennsylvania. Matthew got to talk to a lady from Canada. Most of our real ministry in NYC was just talking to strangers and showing the love of Christ. People are not used to any attention from strangers and were flattered. Monday we went to the Covenant House. This is a homeless shelter for teenagers. We helped them sort out their donations. Later that day we worked with Raven Ministries which is a street evangelism ministry in Manhattan. We meet at the Raven headquarters and were briefed then the group walked down to a bus depot. It was a rather long walk, but it was really neat because on the way there we sang hymns. Once at the final location we served food and talked with homeless people, pimps, prostitutes, and gang bangers. It took courage to step out and talk to this crowd. Im glad the group stepped out in faith because we saw many people come to know Christ. It was a true blessing! Tuesday we helped a meals on wheels program and we delivered food to shut-ins. Then we spent time at an adult daycare, the Florence Nightingale Adult day care. There I met a man who moved to America from China ten years ago to escape the religious persecution of the communist government. He said that he goes into the church where he attends everyday because he can. I cant imagine what a freedom this man now has. Later that evening a few of us from the group went to Jim Cymbalas Brooklyn Tabernacle....It was unbelievable. The three of us that went were blessed to see God move in a personal way why we where there. To describe all that happened would take a newsletter itself. Wednesday was the tourist day for us and we when to see the sites. And Thursday we headed home back to San Angelo, Texas.
