President Johnson earlier on today signed a bill into law that legalized gambling.

This long awaited bill comes at no surprise to anyone. The law amounts to little because of online gambling, but it was still something strongly opposed by both Nevada and Atlantic City casino owners. Since the raise of online gambling in the late 1990's this has been a major battleground. The question was what was the point in having gambling illegal in the United States if one could just go online and play there. At one point there was an outcry to make gambling over the Internet illegal but this was quickly proven much to hard and possible against international law. So far a long time the American government just sat back and did nothing. Within the last 10 years this issue has come back to the surface as developers like Mr. Donald Trumps son have said they want to develop casinos in New York city and other major metropolitan areas where gambling was up until this law illegal. The passage of this law should help stimulate the US economy in a major way. In the state of Nevada there is no personal income tax because of all the revenue from gabling. The hope is that with the passage of this law other states will be able to benefit in the same way. Some concerns expressed regarding this bill is that it would make is far too easy for underage minors to now gamble, but this is far from the truth. In Las Vegas where gambling has been legal it is very well regulated and they are able to stop minors from gambling, on the other hand when people are forced to go underground to gamble a lot less care is taken as to ones age. President Johnson in his press conference said that while he knows that there has been much debate over this issue in the past he hopes that America will now be able to come together. President Johnson also expressed his belief that this bill will make life better not only for some American but for every American.
