Does GM still Exist?
The CEO of General Motors announced today in a press conference that they will
be
closing the last of their factory in Flint, Michigan. Flint, Michigan has now
been the
home of General Motors for over 100 years and this marks a sad day in its
history.
Reason for the closure were not talked about during the press conference, but
this is
the last in a series of closures that has been taking place over the last 50
years.
General Motors like many other companies in the United States has been forced to
outsource to keep up with lowering prices and the rising cost of American labor.
This closure marks the last auto company to leave the United States. An
industry
pioneered and once dominated by American legends like Henry Ford, David Buick
and
Ransom Olds has died because of outsourcing. The American dear is slowly dying
as
more and more companies are forced to move over seas. The American worker
cannot compete with labors from overseas who will work for pennies on the
dollar.
This outsourcing is lowing the American quality of life, and while many American
fell
that it is not there problem, and that its good because it brings the price of
good
down in the long run it will hurt all Americans.
I am calling on the American Government to put an end to outsourcing. For
America
to remain a world power, it must continue to maintain its quality of life for
all
Americans. If the American Government allows this to continue American will
lose all
of the industries that once made it great. This is an issue that has been put
off to the
side for much to long and the government can no longer look past it. If our
government does not act soon it will be too late, and there will be nothing left
to do
but look on and watch as we fall from the top of the world to the bottom.
