Dear Friends

I had posted a letter to various Yahoo! discussion groups, asking for information regarding Goa's imaginary 'Accession' to the Indian Union. (See here.)

The letter was actually a probe, designed to set off discussion and, hopefully, awake my compatriots from their complacent slumber and unquestioning acceptance of the Indian Union's claim over us.

I spent a lot of time in the evenings of 29th & 30th December 2003, posting this letter.

However, except for one or two, most of the groups — and the more important and larger ones — did not, infact, 'approve' my post...

I am still at an absolute loss as to the reasons why.

However, I did receive a kind of reply — from Gaspar Almeida who described himself as of the Goa-world Discussion group & Moderator for TGF (The Goan Forum) and Gulf-Goans Discussion Group. He pointed me to a five page article by Bonny Lubega hosted on the Goan Forum, and to the UN website, besides providing me with the text of the UN Resolution 1514(XV) of 14th December 1960.

The Lubega article and the Resolution 1514 (XV) are very good.

However, the manner and content of the reply has left me entirely foxed. Taking the composite animus of Lubega and of Resolution 1514 (XV) — and Lubega openly denies that there WAS any Constitutional Accession process or procedure involved in the pretended incorporation of Goa into the Indian Union — then what is Gaspar Almeida trying to say by drawing my attention to these texts? I cannot figure it out.

While I cannot figure out Gaspar, I do know that a lot of my compatriots adopt a sphinx-like attitude: I most fervently wish that they would abandon this attitude and speak frankly and straight-forwardly.

Since posting this letter, I have, however, learnt some important truths.

One: There seems to be an 'admirable' — even promiscuous — collaboration between the various Goan forums - TGF, Gulf-Goans, Goanet, Goa-Net, etc., etc.

Two: "Cross my heart, we practice no censorship."

Thus, for example, there was this charming little exchange on Goanet, the granddaddy of them all. I have not reproduced the entire exchange, nor is there any need to.

Hello Frederick,

For the purpose of clarity I think we should make a clear distinction here. Goans are Goans and Indians are a totally different breed. With that in mind we should then look at the daunting task at hand as to how are we going to arrive at a definitive number of "REAL GOANS" that are out there in the world.

The Indians simply forget about them. They can manage or mismanage their own affairs, who cares. Not after they have robbed our beautiful land and turned it into a 'SPITTING PAAN LAND".

Ivor (Samora)'s message is disgusting. Why are such responses not caught in the pre-posting filter?

Goans are Goans and we are part of India and not another country. Believe it.

Rozario -

There is no filter of IDEAS on GoaNet.

Got the picture?

What I have become aware of, is that there was and is still today, a sharp polarisation and even Civil War, albeit as yet unarmed, between a determined and focussed minority of Traitors determined to defend the annexation, come what may, and an equally determined and focussed minority of Patriots opposed to the annexation.

It is true that when the Occupation began, the traitors celebrated around the world, while we patriots began our long fight to evacuate the Occupation...
