The octagon finger joint box starts with each blank being sawn at 45 degrees (each end). The sled is pitched at a 45 degree slant. Place blank next to indexing "tooth" for first cut.

A side view of the first cut, which shows the angle of the sled. Remember that when tuning your cuts, raising or lowering the table saw blade is doubled in length of fingers (two pieces fitting together).

I took great pains with scrap pieces to make sure that the cuts and the width of the blank ended up even. When finished on one edge, flip the piece over and do the other end. Patience helps here... There are a lot of cuts to do. Make sure that each cut is lined up and consistant.

Again, a side view to show the cuts.
