As We Lay Him to Rest...

I feel a great emptyness in my heart today,

For God has called my father and taken him away.

They say he is just resting and I know this must surely be true,

but about this sadness in my heart, God, what should I do?

I know you have taken away all his suffering and pain,

but now in my heart, all these things still remain.

I never told him enough, how much I loved him

and I thought he was the best,

but now it's too late, as we lay him to rest.

Promises of a Better Life

Beauty for ashes strength for fear,
Joy and laughter in place of tears.
This is what our Saviour has promised will be
For His dear children like you and me.

From rags to riches it has been foretold,
We'll have treasures more valuable than silver or gold.
Peace will replace war and strife;
These are the promises of a better life.

In loving memory of my father
who went to sleep, Nov. 22,1997
