Girl of Mine
Little girl of mine I see you there,
With a velvet ribbon in your hair.
The years are slipping by too soon
I know,
As I watch you daily grow.

You step into my high heel shoes,
Your fingernails painted in
different hues,
As I watch, with joy I receive,
While you play there in your
world of make-believe.
In my old forgotten party dress,
You pretend to be, maybe...
a princess.
As I watch your reflection in
the mirror,
I think of your grown-up days
getting nearer.

Wonder what way of life you will
choose?
Whichever, hope your love, never
to lose.
You're changing into a young lady
day by day,
But then, I'm aging too, for I'm
turning gray.
Your dolls now lay on the shelf,
As you discover new things for
yourself.
You're growing up, and so you
should...
But to keep you my baby...only
wish I could.

Helping with the house, learning
to cook,
Listening to records, or reading
a book...
My heart grows a little sadder
each day,
As I realize, won't be long till
you go your own way.
