A Boy's Dreams

cat

A boy just turning an age in his teens,
Changing from his Sunday's best, to faded blue jeans.
With a patch on the knee and an old straw hat.
By his side, a favorite dog and an old stray cat.

As he walks out past the barn, into the corn,
Down through the meadow, to a path well worn.
Leading where he likes to spend his lazy hours,
And where his sister gathers pretty wild flowers.

The water curling its fingers about the pebbles
in the brook,
while catching tiny minnows on a safety pin
hook.
Laying flat on his back, in the sun, on the
shore,
Won't be long till he begins to softly snore.

His thoughts carry him up and away on a cloud,
As he thinks all the things that make a lad
proud.
With a piece of straw stuck loosely between
his teeth,
Gazing upward at the sky with the dry earth
beneath.

As he feels the quiet peacefulness there,
wishing it never to part,
While the things of nature begin to fill
his heart.
Where he can dream his dreams never to be
told,
For this is one place, his fondest memories
will hold.
