John baptized
with water for repentence of sins, but he had not the power to cleanse
them of their wrongdoings. That power resided in Christ alone. John said, "I baptize
you with water. But One greater than I is coming."

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
Blessed are thou among
women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Jesus who gives us new life.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
