| Anteaters- more than 6 varieties inhabit the rainforests of Shendi. The great spined anteater, ususally grows to 20 feet in length and feeds on white ants or termites, breaking apart their towering nests of toughened clay with mighty claws then darting its 4 foot, saliva coated tongue, drawing thousands into its narrow, tube-like mouth. Bosk- a huge, shambling animal with thick humped neck and long shaggy hair. It has a wide head and tiny red eyes, a fearful temper, and two long, wicked, curved and pointed horns. The horns, when measured from tip to tip may average about 2 spear lengths. It is for good reason it is called "The Mother of the Wagon Peoples," Its flesh and milk furnish food and drink, shelter is made from it's hides, and clothing from it's tanned and sewn skins. Weapons are made from the leather of its hump and many tools and implements from its bones and horns. Even the dung is dried and used for fuel. The bosk is reverenced and the penalties for its slaughter without reason are extreme. Frevet- a small, quick mammal, an insectivore kept in homes for pest control. Gatch, Armored- a marsupial mammal, which inhabits the rainforests of inland Shendi. Giani- a large mammal of solitary habits, which inhabits the rainforests of inland Shendi. Hith- a huge, python-like snake Hith, Golden- a rare Gorean python so large, it would be difficult for a man to encircle its body with his arms. Hurt- a two-legged, domesticated marcupial. It is raised on ranches in several northern cities, herded by sleen and sheared for its white wool. Hurts replace their wool 4 times a year. Kaiila- large, carnivorous mammal, with a long neck and silky fur; it's eyes has three lids, is viviparous, has incredible stamina, and can be domesticated for riding in spite of its vicious temper. In the Tahari, its long hair is used to braid rope, it's milk potable by Humans. Kaiila, Desert- also known as sand kaiila, this omnivorous animal is related to the southern kaiila and similar in most aspects barring pelt color and rearing of young: pelt color is tawny or black and young are suckled for a length of time. The men of the Tahari use this mount. Kaiila, Southern- It has a rich gold to black pelt. The kaiila is a mammal, but there is no suckling of the young, who begin to hunt with hours of their birth. These are the mounts of the Wagon Peoples. Kailiauk- stocky ruminent, tawny with red and brown markings on haunches, having three horns and stands 20-25 hands at the shoulder. Kailiauk, Prairie- short-trunked, stocky, awkward ruminent of the plains. Their color is tawny with red and brown markings on the haunches. Their wide heads bear a trident horn. They instinctively circle when resting. Their she's and young protected within. Larl- a seven foot at the shoulder feline, tawny red or black in coloring, a black mane and carnivorous, similar to a lion. Larl, Black- predominately nocturnal larl which is sable coated and maned both male and female. Larl, Red- predominately day hunting larl, which is tawny red coated and has no mane in either male or female. Larl, White- seen in the icy mountains of Sardar, they are the largest of the big cats, standing 8 feet; upper canines extending below their jaws, similar to the saber-toothed tiger; long tails are tufted on the ends. Lart, Two stomach Snow- a mammal with four legs that stands 10" high and weighs between 8-12 pounds. It hunts in the sun. The food in the second stomach can be held almost indefinately. It is filled in the fall and most last the lart through the winter night, which lasts for months, It eats bird's legs and preys on the leem. Leem- a small arctic rodent, 5-10 ounces in weight. It hibernates in the winter and their summer coats are brown. Monkey, Guernon- found in the jungle along the Ua river; recognized by their chattering sound. Monkey, Jit- a simian mammal which inhabits the rainforests inland of Shendi. Porcupine, long tailed- animal of the canopy-level of the rainforests. Quala- small, dun-colored, 3-toed mammal with a stiff, brushy mane of black hair. Slee- a rodent which inhabits the ground-level of the rainforests Sleen- a ferocious feline, some 20 feet long, having 6 legs and 2 rows of teeth, can be domesticated for herding and tracking. Sleen, Forest- it is long, up to 20 feet, sinuous, black or brown in color. It resembles a lizard, except its furred and mammalian. In it's attack frenzy, it is one of the most dangerous animals on Gor. Sleen, Gray- said to be Gor's finest tracker, this six-legged sleen is a furred mammal with silver, gray fur. It has an agile, sinuous body, thick as a drum and is 14-15 feet long. The gray sleen has a wide triangular head and a huge jaw with 2 rows of fangs and a dark tongue, It's widely-set eyes has slit pupils. As true of all sleens, it has 6 legs. This breed is relentless and tenacious. It can follow a scent that is weeks old for a thousands of pasangs. Sleen, Hunting- a hunter of men, it is 20 feet in length and weighs 1100 pounds, it's tail tends to twitch back and forth, getting rigid as it hunts, it's ears flattens against its head just prior to its final "charge" attack on its prey. Sleen, Miniature - sly, nasty and dangerous if not propery controlled, often kept as pets by FW. It is this sleen in which the derogatory reference in calling someone a "sleen" or "she-sleen." Sleen, Prairie- tawny in color and smaller than the forest sleens, but quite as unpredictable and vicious. Domesticated prairie sleens for hunting and nocturnal herd sleen are used as shepards and sentinals. They are released from their cages with the falling of darkenss, responding only to the voice of their master. Squirrels, Black- inhabitants of the rainforests Tabuk- a kind of antelope, being yellow in color and having one horn. Tabuk, Northern- massive, tawny and swift, much larger than the southern varieties, stands 10 hands from the shoulder. They have a single, spiraling ivory horn, which at its base can be 2 1/2 inches in diameter and over a yard in length. Tabuk, Prairie- described as tawny and gazelle-like with a single horn, it responds to threats by scurring away or lying down. Presumably this response is useful because of the tall grass of the Barrens as most predators depend on vision to detect and locate prey. Tarsk- porcine animal akin to Earth's pig, having a bristly mane that runs down its spine to the base of its tail. Tharlarion- one of several types of large, carnivorous reptiles, some which has been domesticated; it's fat is rendered to provide lamp oil. Urt- a small, silken furred rodent akin to the Earth's rat, it has three rows of teeth, two tusks and two horns. Vart- blind, bat-like, flying rodent, about the size of a small dog. Verr- a mountain goat indigneous to the Voltai Mountains; wild, agile, ill-tempered with long hair and spiraling horns; source of a form of wool, its milk is potable as well as being used for cheese. Zeder- a small, sleen-like, carnivorous mammal, which inhabits the rainforests. |
