Insects of Gor
Ant, Marcher- known in the jungles of Shendi as "The Marchers," are these aggresive, carniverous insects. Each are about 2 inches long, with a shiny black exoskeleton and two antennae. Their name is derived from their, apparently seasonal, marches through the jungle in a single column, yards wide and pasangs in length. They may number in millions, their path's widening as much as 500 feet when they overtake, swarm over and devour
all flesh, living or dead, in their path.  Their bite is extremely painful, but not posionous. Their victims die from being weakened from relentless attack, being overcome until they are still.

Arthropod- a creature found in the tunnels of the Nest of the Priest-Kings. It is 8 feet long and a yard high, with a multi-segmented body and 8 legs. Its eyes are on ling stalks.

Gitch- biting insect, description vague, although it is used near mentions of roaches.

Golden Beetle- an insect, roughly the size of a rhinoceros, which live in the caravans below the Nests of the Priest-Kings in the Sardar Mountains, its prey is the Priest-Kings themselves.

Grasshopper, Red-  beyond color, this insect is described weighing 4 ounces.

Hinti- small, flea-like insects; unlike fleas they are not parasites.

Leech, Marsh- described as rubbery, about 4 inches long, it attaches itself to marsh plants or float free in the water, waiting for warm-blooded animals. They fasten themselves to the victims to suck blood until, satiated, they detach. They can be removed with fire and salt. They are edible.

Lice, Tarn- marble sized parasites that infest wild tarns.

Needle Fly- also know as sting flies, these originate in the delta and similar places. Its sting is extremely painful but it is ususally not dangerous unless inflicted in great numbers.

Rennel- a crab-like poisonous desert insect.

Roaches- even on Gor these insects appear, large, flat bodied, oblong and black; about a half a hort in length with long feelers.

Rock Spider- an inhabitant of the rain forests lower level, this brown or black spider camoflages itself by tucking legs under its body to look like a rock, hence the name, its approximately 1 foot in diameter and will catch small rodents and birds in its web.

Scorpion- found in the canopy-level of the rainforests.

Slime Worm- a long, slow, blind worm which inhabats the caverns below the Nests of the PKs; scavanges the remains of the golden beetle's kills.

Swamp Spiders- man-sized arachnids which inhabit the swamp lands of Ar; they can communicate in human speech via mechancal translators they wear around their abdomens; they spin Cur-lon fibers, which is used in the textile mills of Ar.

Toos- a crab-like organism with overlapping plating; inhabits the Nests and scavanges on discarded fungus spores.

Vint- tiny, sand-colored insects found in the Tahari Desert.

Zarlit- a large, harmless, purple insect about 2 feet long and with 4 long, translucent wings, with a span of about a yard. It is able to walk on water because of its pad-like feet and feeds on small insects.
