Maggie O'Neill Maggie O'Neill was born in the Midlands in 1967. She was the youngest of six children. Maggie has a fear of the countryside, which she says is probably from watching too many horror films. She prefers London and tries to get back as often as possible to spend time with her boyfriend, who is an artist.

Dr Alex Redman Dr Alex Redman is a former army doctor who was based in Bosnia. She arrived in Cardale to begin a new life, after she separated from her husband, Paul. Although their marriage had been on the rocks she was tempted to take him back when he arrived in Cardale to reconcile, but they ended up getting a divorce. Alex got together with Dr Mark Kershaw, a GP from a neighbouring practice. This relationship left her colleague and admirer, Dr Tom Deneley seething with jealousy. After Alex found out about Mark's cheating ways, Tom and Alex eventually got together. However, their happiness was struck another blow, when Alex feared she had ovarian cancer. Not wanting to face up to the fact that she may be suffering from what killed her mother, she fled to her hometown of York and tried to escape her problems by embarking on a drinking binge. It ws up to Dr Tom to go after, prove his love for her and get her to reconsider her decision about the opeartion. Alex has to wait for results to see if the Endometriosis (she didn't have cancer) has left her infertile. .Recovering from her illness, Alex and Tom's love blossomed and despite the intervention of, old army pal and new nurse, Claire Brightwell, the pair eventually decide to marry. Rejecting Claire's infatuation with her after a kiss they shared on a camping trip, Alex has to struggle against Claire's destruction as the wedding gifts and her wedding dress are smashed and ripped to pieces. Determined to go ahead with the wedding, Alex then has to face Claire, armed with a gun on the edge of a water-filled quarry. After her husband-to-be is shot in the shoulder, Will tries to save Alex by trying to get through to Claire, but things go horribly wrong when Claire jumps off of the cliff taking Alex with her. Are they dead or alive? |
