Dr Andrew Attwood Dr Andrew Attwood joined the The Beeches in 19995 as a trainee. From a working-class background, Andrew only found the courage to train as a doctor after his dad died. He previously worked as an elctrician. Andrew came to Cardale from Liverpool. His wife, Kirsty, wanted to stay in Liverpool to train as a teacher and Andrew could not convince her to settle down in Cardale and start a family. This caused many problems between them and eventually their 13-year marriage broke up. Kirsty later returned to Cardale with another man’s baby, after having a row with the father but Andrew was no longer interested and he called her boyfriend to come and collect her. Andrew had to face an official complaint of attempted assault when he became friendly with a first-year medical student, Lousie Siddons. Although Louise later admitted that it wsa all lies, it led to a nervous breakdown and Andrew walked out of Cardale the morning he was due to become a partner at The Beeches. He was eventually made a partner and was left in charge of funds, when Will left Cardale. Andrews relationship with Erica was an on-off affair. It started when Andrew slept with Erica after a meal at her house, while he was still married to Kirsty. He felt guilty afterwards and it went no further. He later had a brief fling with Joanne Pearson but it ended when it became obvious that she wanted more than a casual relationship. Andrew and Erica eventually gave into their feelings for each other when her house burnt down and she moved in with him. However, their relationship was again interrupted by the death of his mother (he increased her morphine dose to prevent her suffering) and Erica’s quest to find her birth-parents. Andrew eventually proposed to Erica at a local beauty spot but was turned down. Erica later proposed to him and he accepted, but on their wedding day, Erica jilted him at the church and left Cardale Andrew then found love with receptionist Dawn Rudge, but she later walked out on him returning to her ex-husband. Andrew then risked everything in an adulterous affair with Kate Turner, the wife of the head of the PCT. He left Cardale with Kate, after he was accused of sexual assault by one of his patients. Although he was cleared, he felt like he could stay in Cardale no longer and they headed off for a fresh start somewhere new. . |
