| Later that night... Todd knocked on the door of Elizabeth's dorm at SVU. Elizabeth answered it a few seconds later, she was laying on the bed and needed the time to get up. "Hey there, beautiful" Todd greeted, brightly. He pressed a quick kiss on her cheek. "You wanted to talk?" "Yeah, come on in" Elizabeth answered, kissing him back. Todd came into the room, shutting the door behind him. Elizabeth sat down in the chair, carefully. Todd took the couch. "So, what's up?" Todd asked, staring into her eyes, focusing all his attention on her. Elizabeth fidgeted with her hands, resting them on her belly, which was starting to swell with child. "This is really hard to say, but just after you left for Vermont, I was feeling ill and under the weather" Elizabeth explained. "I went to see the doctor, had a couple of tests" Todd nodded, thoughtfully. "And?" Todd prompted. Elizabeth glanced into his warm brown eyes. "I'm pregnant, three month's pregnant" Elizabeth told him. The colour drained from Todd's face, his jaw dropped in shock. He was speechless. After a few moments of awkward silence, he found the words. "How? We were so careful" Todd spluttered. Elizabeth got up and sat down next to him on the couch. "Do you remember that night after homecoming? It was our anniversary night and we spent the night together?" Todd nodded. "In the morning, we weren't that careful". Todd's eyes widened. He bent his head, nervously running his fingers through his hair. "I am so sorry, Liz" Todd murmured "Why didn't you tell me?" "It wasn't something that you bring up on the phone" Elizabeth said, quietly. Todd rose to his feet. "I have to go" he said, suddenly. He pressed a kiss on her forehead and headed for the door. "You're upset with me, aren't you?" Elizabeth wept, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I'm really sorry". Todd turned to face her. "I just need time to think" Todd told her. He left, closing the door softly behind him. Elizabeth threw herself face-down on the sofa and sobbed. Todd got in his car and took off for the beach, the best place to think things through. After Elizabeth had cried for a while, there was a knock at the door. Elizabeth opened it to see her twin standing there. Elizabeth hugged her tightly. "Hey, what's the matter?" Jessica said, quietly. "I told Todd about the baby" Elizabeth wept. "He's upset with me, I'm going to lose him, Jess". Jessica shook her head. "Liz, you won't lose him, he just has a lot to think about" Jessica reassured her. Elizabeth glanced up at her. "Really? I'm not going to lose him?" Elizabeth cried. "No, and if you do, I'm going to kick his butt myself" Jessica added with a stern expression. Elizabeth giggled, sighing with relief. |
