| Elizabeth Wakefield rose from her bed that morning. She was four months pregnant. Four months ago, her boyfriend Todd Wilkins had a fight with her and he ended up going on work experience in Vermont for a few months. Elizabeth had work experience at Varitronics in Sweet Valley. The President was on vacation. The Vice-President had hired her. She was working in the accounts department. Elizabeth was working on the invoices when one of the executives came up to her. "Liz, I would like you to meet two of the accountants from Vermont" he said. Elizabeth looked up and met the eyes of Todd. Elizabeth was still seated at her desk so he couldn't see any evidence of her pregnancy. "It's nice to meet you" Elizabeth said, quickly. Elizabeth stood up and excused herself. She needed a glass of water. Todd also excused himself and followed her, they needed to talk. He noticed that she had put on weight. Elizabeth poured the water into a paper cup and gulped down the cool fluid. She placed the cup down after two mouthfuls. Todd came up behind her. "Liz, are you all right?" Todd asked "You look really pale and you seem different". "I'm okay, when did you get back?" Elizabeth asked, glancing up at him. "Just yesterday" Todd told her. "Liz, I missed you". He drew her into his arms, holding her tightly. "I missed you too" Elizabeth whispered, holding on tight. "I'm really sorry about some of the things I said to you" "Me too, I didn't mean to go off the deep end like that" Todd added. By this time, they had pulled back and were looking at each other. "I never went near Tom at all" Elizabeth exclaimed "I swear". Todd nodded. "I believe you, on the plane to Vermont, he was on the same flight right in front of me. He admitted the whole thing. He just wanted to break us up" Todd explained "I gripped the seat so hard to keep from decking him right there and then". A tear slipped down Elizabeth's cheek. Todd gently brushed it away with his left index finger. "He's a bastard" Elizabeth wept "I love you". Todd swept her into his arms, kissing her lingeringly. "I love you too, Liz" Todd confessed "I've always loved you, I will always love you". They kissed again. Elizabeth smiled at him. "Todd, there's something I have to tell you, but it will have to wait until after work" Elizabeth exclaimed. Todd nodded. "Okay, let's get back to it" Todd added. Elizabeth and Todd headed back into the office. |
