Over Easter,1998, we hosted a party of 68 visitors from Langenlonsheim. There was a full program of events which started on Good Friday afternoon with a History Society walk around the town. This was followed by a Hot Cross Bun Tea. In the evening, a formal Welcome dinner was held at the John O'Gaunt Golf Club. On Saturday most of the visitors tried to enjoy a visit to London, although this was rather cold and wet. Sunday was a better day and started with an Easter Service in the Parish Church, followed by a visit to Duxford Airfield and Museum. The day was rounded off by a visit to Cambridge. Monday saw a visit to Ely, and finally in the evening there was a Farewell Party, where hosts and visitors were entertained by local groups and enjoyed an excellent buffet meal washed down by real ale from the new Potton Brewery. The visitors brought with them a very versatile Jazz Band, the Lalo Wine Street Ramblers who performed at three different venues over the weekend including the Party. All the visitors were hosted by Twinning Association members and other townsfolk and the Committee wish to thank all those who were involved.
Easter 2001, saw a party from Potton making the return journey to Langenlonsheim. There are many Easter traditions in Germany which we do not have here so we were able to see some of these. Gardens are decorated in a traditional way and Easter Eggs in the form of hard-boiled painted eggs are hidden for the children to find. We were taken up into the grape terraces on an Easter Egg hunt, but also to find hidden sweets, and this time it wasn't just for the children!
Many places of interest were visited during the few days there and with all the social activities that took place, mostly involving the drinking of large quantities of wine, a really good time was had by all.
Below are some photographic reminders of this visit.
