Chapter 1

Dear Alicia,
Cant you wait? Tomorrow is what our teachers have been blabbing on and on about. I wish they would just tell us. I asked Mrs. Blade about it.  She shook her head and walked away. I suspect she knows. Okay got to listen in class now. I cant spend all of my time writing letters. See you tomorrow!

Best Friend,

Melissa

Alicia smiled as her eyes finished the letter Melissa had given her during math class. Telling her to open it when she got home. She signed broadly to herself, wishing there was more to the letter for her to read.
Her eyes scanned her tidy room for something to do. Unfortunately nothing stood out of the rest. All she had was books, books, and more books. Its not that she didnt enjoy them. Alicia loved books. She just wanted something else to do than read books. She scanned again. A few teddy bears stood out, but what could she do with teddy bears.
With no other choice, Alicia walked over to a shelf of books. Lily, her maid had categorized them, then in alphabetical order.  She signed as she ran her fingers through the row of books.
She stopped at a book named Spirit, stallion of the Cimarron She remembered that this was a present from Lily at her 11th Birthday. Lily had reminded her to read it.  Alicia stared at the cover as she sat on her
bed. The horse on the cover looked proud. She arched her neck and put on a serious look, pretending to be the horse.
Just then, Lily walked in with a basket of clean laundry. Alicia, why the face? Lily asked jokily.
Nothing She answered opening the new book.
Now you start reading that Lily said sarcastically as she hanged up Alicias ballroom dress.
Alicia is one of four children of the rich and famous, Richard Sharp. With his kind and also wealthy wife, Kathleen Sharp. She had a lot of parties to go
to since of her parents good business.
Ah, Alicia, are you bored? Lily asked hanging another one of Alicias ballroom dresses.
How can you tell? Alicia asked with her head under her pillow now.
Well, Alicia, you are very like your parents, you should grow up to be an actress someday. Lily finished, hanging up the last of Alicias clothes.
Alicia glanced over at the door that Lily asked. She saw her poster of a cute kitten hanging on it.
What are you looking at? She muttered to the picture. The kitten still looked at her with a cute face.  Alicia looked away. Sitting up on her bed she
slowly opened the book again.
They say the history of the west was written from a saddle of a horse. But its never been told from the heart of one, not until now. Alicia finished the introduction of the book.
Spirit was a wild horse! Alicia whispered to herself.
I wish I was free, than stuck in this house, much like a prison cell, not allowed to go anywhere, Alicia thought to herself. She put the book a side and picked up Melissas letter.
Nothing new Alicia said reading the letter once more.
Alicia, Faith, Harmony, Aaron! yelled Latrine, the chef for the Sharp family. Dinner! She finished.
Aaron was next door to Alicia. He opened his door as Alicia passed by.
Hey! Aaron said cheerfully as Alicia passed by.
Hi. Alicia answered with a smile.
Arent you excited? Aaron asked as Alicia walked down the marble steps.
Very. Alicia answered trying to sound excited.
I guess that kind of stuff is not good enough for a person like you. Aaron teased.
People like me? Alicia said with a questioning look on her face.
Yeah! A student. I bet you would be more excited if there was a book report. Aaron teased, but soon found that enough after Alicia had began to run after him. She chased him all the way to the bottom of the
stairs where they were stopped by Daisy, the housemaid.
How was your day? Mrs. Sharp asked, already in her seat.
Good, Aaron and Alicia said in unison. Angel came down with Ethan, who was shy to say he got a C in Math, the familys best subject. Alicia was the third oldest in the family. Only Ethan was younger than her.
Mr. Sharp came in from his office still on his cell phone, talking cheerfully. After he had hung up, he smiled at his family and said, Ive got some good
news.
