What was that all about? she asked anxiously. Harry told them what he and Mrs. Figg talked about, or rather what Mrs. Figg told him. Ron looked quite interested in this.
So dyou think shes on Snapes side? he asked.
Theres no doubt that shes on Snapes side, Harry began, But the question is whose side are they on?
I dont understand it, Hermione said. How could she be on You-Know-Whos side? If she were, she wouldnt have let you live for 15 years. She would have killed you as soon as she had the chance!
I know, it doesnt make sense, Harry agreed.
So now there are two teachers trying to hand you over to You-Know-Who? Ron asked. Harry gave him an aggravated look.
We dont even know for sure that theyre really after me! he argued.
Listen Harry, although its good to be optimistic, Hermione said, You need to be on your toes. I agree that we should do some investigating, and find out what Snapes really up to. We just have to be prepared for the worst.
Alright, Harry said edgily. The three headed off for lunch.
As they ate, Harry kept wondering how it was possible that Mrs. Figg would be on Voldemorts side. Maybe she just recently switched over, Harry thought. Or maybe shes under the Imperious Curse? Harry couldnt fathom that Mrs. Figg would ever be on Voldemorts side, but he decided to be very cautious around her. They ate lunch in relative silence, as their classmates chattered around them.
After lunch, the boys set off for Divination. As they were entering the classroom, Harry smelled the clouds of scent overwhelm him. He instantly felt drowsy, but still plodded over to his seat. Professor Trewlaney, dressed in a purple dress with a white, lace shawl, turned to greet the entering students. Her bracelets jangled as she sat in the large, musty chair in the front of the small classroom. After the students took their seats, she began to speak.
Good afternoon, dears, she began. Today, we will be using crystal balls to foresee the future. Suddenly, she looked right at Pansy Parkinson. You, she said, The next nightmare you have will be about something that happens to you one week later. Pansy looked at her nervously. Now class, Professor Trewlaney said, Please retrieve your crystal balls from the side of the classroom. The students hastily salvaged their crystal balls and brought them back to their desks. Harry set his on the table in front of him, and stared lazily into it. The greenish cloud inside swirled around into different shapes. Harry yawned lethargically, and looked over at Ron. He was looking intently into the ball. Harry chuckled lightly, and continued to look into his ball. Professor Trewlaney was circling the classroom, telling the students their futures. As she reached Harry, he prepared for her to give him his death warning. She peered into the ball, her brow furrowed.
Ah, yes, she said. Yes, of course. Harry gave her an odd look.
What is it? he asked. She looked at him.
There has been some question of trust in your life recently, she started.
And? Harry asked. She looked at him ominously.
It would be wise to not go with the obvious answer, she advised, and hustled away to another student. Harry pondered what she had said. Dont go with the obvious answer. What does that mean, he wondered. He looked over at Ron, who was obviously getting quite frustrated with his crystal ball. When it almost looked like he was about to smash it, Professor Trewlaney fluttered over to him and stared into it. Her forehead wrinkled as she tried to decipher the blue cloud swirling in Rons crystal ball.
Ah yes, a friend will betray you by taking something from you while you are away, she said. I suggest you not overreact when this happens, though, as the friend will not know what they are doing. Ron looked at her oddly, and then glanced at Harry, rolling his eyes in sarcasm. Harry stifled a laugh, and turned away as Professor Trewlaney bustled up to the front of the class.
Alright students, I am sad to inform you that class has ended. Please place the crystal balls carefully back in the closet. The class jumped up and hurried towards the exit, jamming their crystal balls back in their spots. Harry and Ron dashed out of the room, taking in the fresh air.
Finally! Ron exclaimed. I never thought that class would end!
Yeah, Harry said indifferently. But he couldnt help but wonder what Professor Trewlaney meant by her statement. The only question he had in his mind was if Snape was against him or not. But which answer was the obvious one? Harry shook his head. Snap out of it, he told himself, you know how inaccurate Divination is. But as he and Ron walked through the halls, he repeated the same thing over and over in his mind.
Don't go with the obvious answer.
