| The Pensieve- The End is Near | ||||||||
| Welcome to the first Pensieve of the year! Sorry for the lack of columns, but I have a study hall this semester, so hopefully updates will be more frequent! This Pensieve has to do with the final confrontation between Harry and Voldemort. Book 6 brought new complexities to this duel for the ages. First off, we gained new insight into the events that helped shape the life of Voldie. From the very begining, Tom Riddle felt vastly superior to those around him. He felt power over them, being able to get them to do his bidding. He collected trophies to celebrate his achievements. He took comfort in the ideals of his past that he created for himself. WHen those ideals are shattered (as was the case when he descovered that his mother, not his father, was magical), he has incredible difficulty accepting the truth. He disappeared for a good piece of time, but the reemerged to seek a position as DADA teacher at Hogwarts, but was promptly rejected by Dumbledore He created a group og "friends" and became the most powerful evil wizard ever. Compare this to the young life of Harry Potter. An orphan saved by his mother's sacrifice, he has lived a life withough affection or any knowledge of what he is. He goes to school, meets his destiny, and now must save the wizarding world. Now, let's compare the two. Both had similar childhoods. Growing up as orphans, I personally think Voldie had the better childhood, because he may have been treated better than Harry physically. Neither had knowledge of their heritage, but react differently upon recieving this knowledge. Harry's reaction is that of wide-eyed bewilderment. Voldemort, however, uses it as vindication for his actions. He feels even more supirior to those around him. This is where their paths split; Harry is modest and childlike, Voldie needs self-esteem and vindication. However, Voldie tries to tie he and Harry together via they're blood. Voldie is a half-blood, no question. To many though, Harry is a pure blood, having a witch mother and wizard father. However, Voldie follows the Nazi method of tracing lineage. Since Harry's mom is muggleborn, Harry has tainted blood. Voldie uses this argument t try and luer Harry, but Harry doesn't fall for it. Now that we have established the players, let's analyze how this battle will go down: When it comes to magical ability and study, Voldemort wins hands down. What match is a 17 year-old wizard to the most powerful evil wizard ever? However, when it comes to magical intuition, I think Harry would win. He seems to have all the luck in the world, but how far can luck really get him? However, as we al know, Harry has a power the dark lord knows not; love. Love has given Harry real friends, not just a grop of hopless followers, which will help immensely in preparing him for the battle. Love has also brought Harry what I believe will be the deciding factor in this fight: Ginny Weasley. Vold had the chance to kill her once before, but failed. Big mistake. Now he has a powerful, ticked-off witch to contend with. Also, he has someone Harry loves, and wants to protect. I have a theory. In this fight, the one that wants it more will win. And I believe that will be Harry. For Harry, the whole would is embodied in his friends and semi-ex girlfriend. While Voldie is fighting for the incredibly vague idea of world domination, Harry is fighting for the personal, attainable idea of saving his friends. Love is what wlll make Harry want to win it more. He is not fighting to save the entire world, just his 4 friends. Well, next time we will examine the character of Ginny Weasely. Hopefully, next time will be soon! |
