Fig Scoring: The New Code of Points

Remember the days of Nadia Comaneci and the 10.0? Well, those days are gone in terms of scoring. Now, a gymnast's highest attainable score depends on how difficult their routine is. Instead of just one score, there is now an A score and a B score. The A score is the difficulty score, which shows how hard the skills are in a routine. The top ten most difficult skills are counted into the A score. Bonus points are also added into the A score, such as connections of skills on beam and floor. Also in the A score, .5 points is added for each of the 5 element group requirements, such as a full spin on beam, a dismount, etc. The B score is the execution score, which shows how well you performed your routine. The A score is limitless; it can go as high as a routine is difficult. The B score is out of a possible 10; pretty much like the old scoring system.

What is worth what? A skills are easy, while G skills are super hard!
A=.1, B=.2, C=.3, D=.4, E=.5, F=.6, G=.7

As an example I'll use Nastia Liukin's uneven bars score at the 2008 VISA Championships on Day 2, which was a 17.10. Her A score, which is the difficulty score, was a 7.7, and since the B score is out of a 10, she could have gotten a 17.7 if she hit a perfect routine. Her 17.10 score is the highest score recieved by any gymnast since the new scoring system was put into place in 2006.

For Uneven Bars, the element group requirements are: 1. Flight from high bar to low bar (.5 for Pak salto) 2. Flight from low bar to high bar (.5 for stalder shoot) 3. Flight from the same bar (.5 for Gienger) 4. Close bar elements (. 5 for stalder, endos) 5. Dismount (.5 for her double front half out dismount)
So Nastia has fullfilled the necessary 2.5 points for the element group requirement section. Now, we take the top 10 difficult skills in her routine.

glide kip + cast to handstand + stalder shoot to high bar (C); kip + cast to handstand + inbar stalder 1/2 to L (D) + Endo in L-grip (D) + Ono (E) + Lin (E) + Ono (E) with additional 1/2 pirouette + Gienger (D); kip + cast to handstand + piked stalder (D) + Tkatchev (D); Pak salto (D); glide kip + cast to handstand 1/2 + toe shoot to high bar (B); kip + cast to handstand 1/2 to L grip + double front half out dismount (D)

So we would take the:
1. Ono w/ add. half pirouette (E; .5)
2. inbar stalder 1/2 to L (D; .4)
3. Endo in L-grip (D; .4)
4. Ono (E; .5)
5. Lin (E; .5)
6. Gienger (D; .4)
7. piked stalder (D; .4)
8. Tkatchev (D; .4)
9. Pak Salto (D; .4)
10. double front half out dismount (D; .4)

These add up to . She also gets connection bonuses. Those are: inbar stalder 1/2 to L (D) + Endo in L-grip (D) = .1
Ono (E) + Lin (E) = .2
Ono (E) + Gienger (D) = .2 (flight)
piked stalder (D) + Tkatchev (D) = .1
