Police Exploring:
Police Exploring can be a very exciting program to be a part of. It is a program (consisting of young women and men) sponsored by your local Law Enforcement Agency and the Boy Scouts of America. Not only is it a great opportunity for you to experience a possible career in Law Enforcement, but you will learn certain skills and discipline that may assist you in whatever career path you may choose.
Police Explorers are given specific training of basic skills such as radio codes, traffic control, first-aid, marching drills, police procedures, and other basic techniques. Once the Explorers have been given the required training, they are able to participate in the Ride-along program. This program enables the Explorer to observe the actual functions of a police officers as they perform their duties in the field and helps the Explorer decide if this type of occupation is suitable for them.
Police Explorers also perform a variety of community services, such as crowd control at parades, festivals, and special events. Police Explorers may also be called out to assist the police officers in emergency situations, such as searching for missing children, assisting at major disaster scenes or to perform any other duties required by the Police Department.
Who can be a Police Explorer?
Any young man or young woman can sign up to be a Police Explorer. You must be 14 - 21 years of age, must accept the Explorer Code and maintain good grades in school. If you are age 10 - 13, you can participate in our Junior Explorer program, however, there are certain activities that you may not be able to participate in until you reach age 14.
