Gladiators are SVSYL undefeated champs with 1-0 win over Vipers and 0-0 tie against SCV Arsenal.
12/01-02/2001 - The Porterville Gladiators U11 Boys Soccer Club crowned themselves champs of
the SVYSL over the weekend with a 1-0 win against the Visalia Vipers on
Saturday and a 0-0 tie on Sunday against the SCV Arsenal of Visalia. Gladiators went
undefeated in SVYSL league play with a record of 7-0-3.
On Saturday, all it took was a lone goal off a free kick from Gladiator midfielder
Julian Espino. Both teams had many opportunities but we just took advantage of a
free kick, said coach Gilbert Hernandez. We are just happy to get the
win after it seemed the refs wanted the home team to win. They did everything possible for
the Vipers to tie. It seems every time we play a Visalia team, our team is always playing
against the home team and the refs. The coach was referring to a lot bad calls
against the Gladiators and the 5 extra minutes given after regulation, which
seemed very excessive compared to the stoppage time.
