For Immediate Release July 3, 2002
Texas' Sees Its First Case of West Nile Virus (WNV) in a Horse

Preliminary tests on a sick horse that was
 euthanized Saturday, June 29,
near Katy in far west Harris County, indicate that
 the animal was infected
with West Nile Virus (WNV),  a form of "sleeping
 sickness" first detected
in Texas in two dead blue jays June 18 on the
 northwest side of Houston.

Beware if you have a horse - get the shots you need and remember, it requires 2 shots, spaced several weeks apart. Talk to your vet ASAP

How to get involved in 4H

Youth - Come to one of our members meetings on the second Monday of each month and fill out a green enrollment card. Talk to a leader or club manger about what type of project you want to be involved in. Meetings are at bull Sallas Park in New Caney at 7:30 PM.
Your leader will give you information about how to get your project, depending on which show it is, show dates and other information that you need. Difference projects have different requirements, so attendance to the 4H meeting is very important, because this is the time that the paperwork is taken care of and your time to meet with your project leader.  In order to show at the different shows, attendance is required at the 4H meetings.

Adult / Parent  - Worried you don't know enough about a project to be a leader - but you want to get involved in the Porter 4H club, no problem. There are many ways to help the club. Put together a fund raiser to bring in money for the club. The more income that the club has the more equipment that we can supply for the kids.

Want to be a project leader but it appears that all the project leader spots are taken - nope, don't think so. There are many other projects that our club does not have leaders for, therefore our club does not have that event as a project. 4H can be much more than what our club is involved in. All we need is leaders.

Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls, and looks like work
