Documentation of the Development Process
My purpose and intent behind this website were to promote my uncle’s business and help generate leads for his daycare. The steps I took in creating this website was to first think about the things a end-user would be interested in and to focus on my target audience. I realized that my target audience was parents, grandparents, and caregivers. Therefore, I made my web page straightforward, but family orientated. I made sure I focused on providing our credentials, a photo, and a statement from the owner on the homepage. Thus, giving parents, grandparents, and caregivers the prerequisite information needed upfront and the desire to want to explore further.
Also, at the bottom of each page, I provided the general contact information, for the end-users will have the ability to write it down or save it at any time. On every page, I presented a photo to show the different activities the daycare partakes in with the children. Hence, promoting a healthy, safe, and fun environment for all children. When creating the site, I made sure to think like a parent; thus, giving me the ability to focus on the particular areas that end-users would search for.
Defense of the Final Product
For my webpage, I wanted to keep it straightforward but also provide a family orientated feel. Therefore, I went with the colors red, white, blue, and green. The color choice is easy on the eye, it is not too bold or overpowering, and allows the site to look clean and organized. I initially thought about going with all the colors in the rainbow to give it a childlike feel. However, once I implemented the code, it looked messy and was hard on the eyes. I went with Comic Sans MS font for the header in bold to give it a childlike friendly feeling to the end-users. Also, I chose Arial throughout the website, for it is easy to read, the print is not too small or too big for end-users, and it goes with the straightforward and clean idea I wanted.
To make my website engaging but professional, I provided pictures, and a video of different events the children in the center participated in as well as the staff. Successfully, showing how committed the staff is to the children’s well-being. I kept the page professional by making sure I used proper grammar throughout the site and incorporated a mission statement. I made the site easy to use by simply lining up all of the links underneath the header. Therefore, an end-user could not get confused where anything was located throughout the site.
Opportunities for Improvement and Growth
I am overall happy with the site and proud I was able to accomplish it. If I had more time to complete this site, I would add a resource page that would link end-users with resources such as public assistance, voucher programs, diaper programs, etc... Also, I would provide a testimony page with children and parents to be able to post their experiences with the daycare and how the daycare has positively impacted their lives. I believe this would have a positive impact on end-users visiting the site and allow them to see how we value not only their business but our commitment to their families.
