.About/FAQ.

The Punk Online Radio Network (PORN) is the brainchild of Steve Sputnick and Mike Mir, your hosts of the show. Tang, formerly (Vitaly Chernoybal or Pete Peristokia) was an original member of the "Cosmonauts". Bemis, our new found jew, has basically filled his spot for the time being. We are all highschool juniors (as of December, 2000). Steve, Bemis and I attend El Toro High School. Tang attends Laguna Hills High School. It's all in Orange County, Southern California. Well, thats your basic lineup. There are a few guys WAY behind the scenes, that we know and love.

History:
Starting in Summer 1999, Steve, Pete and I began brainstorming ideas for a pirate radio station. We planned to base it on giving people around here access to free punk rock music, and make their lives a little happier. Unfortunatly, we had no money, and even pirate radio stations need some equipment. So, after a little while, we came across the idea of an "online" radio station. It was basically free, so we could afford it, and early on we got alot of support. A couple of bands sent us stuff, and things were looking up. We hooked up with some people from across the US in hopes of making somekind of national network. We were hosted by Skapunx.net thanks to one of our national friends, however, the network proved to be a failure, after none of the shows, including ours, came through. We did manage to crank out a first show before losing nearly all support and having the network fall apart. The idea remained dormant for a few months while we all had alot of other stuff going on. Then, in early March, 2000, i guess cuz of nostalgia or boredom or who knows, Steve decided he wanted to record another show, and asked me if i would fix up the webpage for him. Of course i said i would, and said i wanted to record again with him. So, the Punk Online Radio Network was reformed, lasted another month or two while we regrouped, bought some nice mics and a mixer, and then died again after we failed to produce a quality show. The idea lay nearly dormant again (except for kicking around some ideas about adding video production to it with Bemis) until Thanksgiving break 2000. I downloaded nearly all of the Vandal's Oi to the World in preparation to go see their christmas show on Dec. 22, and played some of it while at Bemis' house that saturday night. Out of nowhere, i started thinking... hey why not make a Christmas CD? Which of course would have to be produced by the entire PORN team. So Bemis and I put a week's worth of effort into planning it, i edited together a few intro tracks, and we called up Sputnick to get his approval. He was all for it. So, saturday morning, December 2nd, before I headed off to work at the Juice Stop, PORN was reborn for the 2nd time. We recorded 2 tracks for the CD, and had lots of out-takes (which replaced the end track, because they were funnier). After work, i dropped back by Bemis', and finished a preliminary playlist. The next day, we worked for hours to finish the playlist, and had it almost done. Monday, we spent 5 hours compiling, creating covers and doing the actual CD production process. Tuesday December 5, PORN sold its first CDs. In the weeks following, we sold upwards of $100 of CDs, donated 20 bucks to a kid without an anus, and recorded our 3rd show. For the first few months of 2001, PORN was worked on, some new equipment bought, and a show recorded on March 3rd. Then, as we ran out of money and time, PORN faded out until spring break 2001, when I, being bored out of my mind, and video games not filling the void, decided to update the page and for some insane reason decided we'd be able to pull a show off on friday, 5 days later. Not that we hadn't before, its just that usually things we did with less than a week or two of planning got messed up. So, as of Wednesday, April 18th, the site is 1/2 way to being redone, with some new goodies added. Tonite is PORN's 1st Fire Log Fest, an interesting event which im sure we'll get pictures and memories from. And Basically, im left with 36 hours to figure out how to air a live show. More than likly it'll have to be recorded again, but thats cool. The website version 4.02 (ver 4 with updates and things) should be done by the end of the weekend, and PORN will hopefully have some more frequent recordings. And thats the current history of PORN.

Mission:
Our mission is to bring free online punk rock music to everyone, and of course to bring a little humor to your daily routine. We want to bring you shows, CD's, new music, everything we can. We want to help support the punk scene in Orange County, and hope to give some of the local bands a place to start online, and to reach people at our school and in our community. And we will always keep the online show free.

FAQ:
What is Shoutcast, and how do i use it?
How do i listen to live broadcasts?
Why wont my computer play show #1?
No others yet, email me if you need help.

What is Shoutcast, and how do i use it?
Shoutcast is a great way for us to broadcast. It "streams" music from our computers driectly to yours. It streams mp3s, which means it can be listened to be almost everyone. Unlike Real Audio (which streams real audio files instead of mp3s), which we used to use, we are able to do live broadcasts, and you can connect to our computers to hear our music playing whenever we are online. It works in kinda the same way Napster does, except that it is in "real time" which means that you dont download anything, you can just connect and listen.
We suggest you download the freeWinamp MP3 player (its really the best player out there). If you already have a "good enough" mp3 player, you can still listen to our shoutcast broadcasts, for most, you use the same method. All you have to do for winamp (and many other programs) is enter the "IP Address" of one of our streams, or just click on the link off the main page. Visit shoutcast.com for more info.

How do i listen to live broadcasts?
You listen to live broadcasts the same way you would listen to one of our shoutcast streams. During times when we are broadcasting live, we will have a very obvious link. All you should have to do is click on it and it will start our live broadcast in your mp3 player. If you dont have a mp3 player, go to winamp.com and download their awesome free one already!

Why wont my computer play show #1?
If you cant play show #1 its because it is in real audio format, and you either dont have a new version real audio player, or for some reason your real audio player isnt working. The real audio folks have really begun to bug me. They have a sub-par product that they constantly want everyone to pay something ridiculous like 30 dollars for. While they do offer a free version, they shamelessly and annoyingly self-promote themselves, their website is difficult to navigate, and they charge for every upgrade. My advice- dont worry about downloading real player, its not worth the trouble. Enough about Real Player tho. Go get winamp. The newer shoutcast shows are much better, much easier to get to work, and just less of a hassle in general. Eventually i'll convert the real audio show #1 to mp3. If you really wanna hear show #1, but dont have a real audio, either wait til i make it mp3, or go to real.com to get a player if you must have one.
