Ahh, the inaugural season. It was a season like no other, because it lacked everything the other seasons had. It wasn't quite a show about a kid in high school, because Cory wasn't quite in high school. It was like watching "Full House" from Stephanie's point of view. Amusing, not amazing. The season lacked any kind of ongoing arc, save a few sparse hints at Cory and Topanga's future relationship (in "Cory's Alternative Friends" and "Boy Meets Girl"). But aside from that, there was very little continuity or resemblance of the finest years of the show. The show was still a baby in its own right.

That being said, that doesn't means the show was horrible. Although the style was remarkably different, it was still Boy Meets World! It was still funny and heartfelt. Cory still had an attitude, Shawn was still a troublemaker, Eric was still girl-crazy, and Feeny was still, well, Feeny. There were no hints at a teacher's trangendered summer (see seasons three's "My Best Friend's Girl") and no making out (see pretty much every episode after season one), but there was a great fear of it.

But there is one thing season one had that no other season had (except one episode in season five), and that is Minkus, the nerd. There isn't much to say about Minkus except that he was the epitomic nerd. But he sure was funny, though. And amazingly, Cory and Shawn willed him to disappear in the season finale, "I Dream of Feeny." They succeeded, too! He was gone until he guest-starred in the season five finale! (I never knew our heroes were so smart!)

Best season episodes: "
Cory's Alternative Friends," Pilot, "Boy Meets Girl."
