Coach Albert Greenshaw knew he had a huge task in front of him when he was
given the job as coach of the newly formed Sacredicity Saints. His
focus was defense, and though he was somewhat successful in this goal, it
will no doubt be hoped by fans of the Saints the Greenshaw is able to
teach his squad a few things about offense before the next game. The
Saints still played relatively well however in their loss to the
Hendrixtowne Serpants.
It was in fact the Saints that opened the scoring in the 14th minute of play with a drop goal from Inside Centre Garth Williamson at the 33 yard line. The Serpants however refused to just give up and quickly took advantage of some miscues by the Saints to score a converted try in the 17th minute of play to make the score 7-3 for Hendrixtowne. The score stayed this way for the majority of the remainder of the half, though the Saints were able to recapture the lead in the dying minutes of the 1st half as Fullback Dennis Chatham did a fullback crash, through the Serpants backs and into the corner of the try zone to make the score 8-7 for the Saints at half. The second half was much of the same as neither team seemed to be able to truly dominate the other until the 72nd minute when the flyhalf for the Serpants was able to kick a quick grubber which he was able to collect and scamper down the field for the eventual game winning score. With the convert that put the score at 14-8 for the Serpants with less than 20 minutes left in the match. The Saints did try numerous times to get that final push into the Serpants end however were unsuccessful of getting the ball past the 40 without the Serpants booting it back out again. In the end, time was the final killer as the Saints went down in defeat in front of a joyous crowd in the city of Hendrixtowne. In other Rugby Premier League news: -The Camelot Wasps first match was a triumph for them as prop Lester Douglas was able to plow through the St Foy City Greens pack and into the try zone for the winning score with 3 minutes remaining on the clock. This try helped to propel the Wasps from behind to defeat the St Foy City Greens yesterday. -The Brunstone Avalanche were thoroughly outplayed in their match verses the Trotskytowne Bolsheviks despite the close score. The Bolsheviks were able to launch to a 16-0 score and coast for the remainder of the game with Brunstone unable to get onto the board at all until the final five minutes of the match. |
