The family the Strode family is an ancient knightly one, whose original progenitor in England is said to have been Warinus (Warine) de la Strode. Warinus de la Strode apparently came to England in 1066 in the retinue of William the Conqueror as one of his warriors. It was also claimed that he was in the Battle of Hastings on 14 October 1066 The prefix of 'de la' to the Strode name lends strong credence to the French or Norman origin of the family.
