Strode Family tree
The family the Strode family is an ancient knightly one, whose original progenitor in England is said to have been Warinus (Warine) de la Strode. Warinus de la Strode apparently came to England in 1066 in the retinue of William the Conqueror as one of his warriors.   It was also claimed that he was in the Battle of Hastings on 14 October 1066
The prefix of 'de la' to the Strode  name lends strong credence to the French or Norman origin of the family.
The Strodes had a name for marrying well and doing it twice. �They  married many landed families
There were three distinct Strode families.
One at   Parnaham near Beaminster in Dorset,
One at Shepton Mallets and one at
Newnham  in Devon
Parnham came into the Strode   family when the heiress Elizabeth Gerard inherited it.  She was  married to Richard de Strode and they moved there after her parents death  Richards 2nd wife was Margaret Chantrale.� Elizabeth gave him Edmond and William 1443 ~ William married Alice Ledred. a wealthy landed heiress
�Pomeroy connections
John Pomeroy of Colliton in the parish   of Newton Ferrers, married a daughter of the Strode family of Parnham.
His Estimated birth dates around 1450 1480� but who his wife might   have been remains a mystery.
In the time of Henry IV (1399-1413), Sir John Strode of Strode House near Modbury  married the heiress of  nearby Newnham (Plympton St Mary Devon) and the family moved to that estate.  
   Descended from them was Richard Strode of Newnham  m.

It is possible he was John   Pomeroy son of Sir   Henry Pomeroy and Alice Raleigh?    living in 1496�and  brother to
Sir Seint Clare Pomeroy who married Catherine Courtnay

The landed families in Collaton   were the Upton's and later the Yonge families of Puslinch

His grandson William Pomeroy   married Mary Bevill daughter of Elizabeth Milliton who was daughter of John   Milliton of Meavy and Pengasick.
   Richard Strode of Newnham m. Agnes Milliton d 1553, dau of John Milliton of   Meavy. There were other connections with landed families , including the  Fortiscue's a notable landed family and also the more famous Courtenay  family Earls of Devon.

Mary Southcott married William STRODE 15 JUL   1581 in Bovey Tracey, Devonshire, son of Richard STROWDE and Frances� CROMWELL. born Jul/Aug 1562 in Of   "Newnham Manor  Plympton St. Mary, and died on/bef 28 Jun 1637 in Newnham Manor, Plympton St. Mary, Devonshire
