SRHM Officers Duties:
|
Student Chapter Advisor: Shall be the primary contact for Society headquarters, receive chapter materials for distribution to officers, advise officers and ensure that the chapter understands the role of SHRM as a professional organization.
Executive Officers: Shall be fully conversant with the chapter bylaws, act as the primary interface, establish an operating plan for the chapter year, take responsibility for fulfillment and train newly elected officers, handing over materials each spring.
President: Shall act as chairperson of the Executive Council; generate and update the chapter mission statement and annual goals/objectives, appoint chairpersons for standing and temporary committees, administer the business of this chapter between regular meetings, exercising authority consistent with the powers given in the bylaws.
Vice President: Shall perform the duties of the president in the event of his or her absence, disability or at the president's request. If the office of the president becomes vacant, the vice president will temporarily act as president of this chapter. The chapter membership will then nominate and vote on a permanent replacement for the president. Shall also be responsible for coordinating the semester calendar of events for the chapter.
- VP, External: - responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships outside of the campus (corporate/university/public sector); promote events and inform PolySHRM of events.
- VP, Internal: - responsible for working with University Relations staff member to insure proper administrative procedures are being followed for on-campus SHRM activities and programs.
University Relations: Shall maintain relationships with university staff, faculty and peers on campus to create a positive image of PolySHRM and express the importance of its activities to the quality of campus life. Works with the VP, Internal to make sure events on campus run smoothly.
Secretary: Shall take minutes of meetings, distribute materials at chapter meetings and to members that cannot be present at meetings. The secretary oversees the Webmaster and the SHRM Merit Awards Chair.
Treasurer: The treasurer has the responsibility for gathering, distributing and managing the chapter's funds. Establishes and adheres to realistic budgets. All officers should be informed of funds budgeted for chapter activities prior to planning for the year.
Webmaster: Shall develop, maintain and regularly update the chapter Web site, listserv and membership database. Creates and maintains content for communications materials as well (flyers, newsletters, etc.)
SHRM Merit Award Chair: Shall advise, track and record how chapter activities fit national SHRM Merit Award guidelines. At least twice a semester, shall inform chapter on point totals, and shall submit the Student Chapter Merit Award application to SHRM National.
Vice President of Public Relations: Creates and maintains content for communication materials, works with webmaster to ensure website portrays desired image and reputation about PolySHRM and SHRM. The Vice President of Public Relations also works with the Chief Editor of the Newsletter to ensure its content and communications serve the needs of the members and external constituents and is responsible for the distribution of
the newsletter and other chapter communications to these parties. They are also the contact person for any press interested in learning more about the organization and affairs and programs PolySHRM is involved in.
International Student Ambassador: At the graduate level, Polytechnic Institute of NYU is comprised 60% International students of which about 75% is Asian. The ambassador is responsible for diagnosing the needs and desires of the International student population and proposes solutions (events, programs, literature, etc.) which SHRM can implement to serve this community and integrate them with the rest of the Polytechnic community.
Chief Editor – Newsletter: Collects content from members for the newsletter and submits the finished product to the Vice President of Public Relations for review. Responsible for ensuring the newsletter is distributed to the members and the university as well as external constituents of PolySHRM.
Student Organization Ambassador: This person provides the HR expertise to any student organization requesting it and serves as the contact person for any student organization (except fellow SHRM chapters which is the responsibility of the [External] Vice President) who wishes to transact with SHRM and communicate their desires such as speakers or budget to the Vice President.
Vice President of Fundraising: PolySHRM only has $5,000 for all programs, initiatives, etc. for the year. The Vice President of Fundraising must ensure PolySHRM has enough funds for all its activities and programs which the secretary informs them. They work with the treasurer to check that money that is raised goes to PolySHRM (or whatever the cost is).
