The Socks of Auld Argyll

Gentle lairds it is me duty,
Ta inform ye of these booties,
Sae warm an' snug an' comfortin'
They're sure ta make ye smile;
Tho' ta own them is a pleasure
That yer feet will always treasure,
There's nae mortal man can measure it--
The Socks of Auld Argyll.

Refrain:
And if ye only had a pair,
Laddie, if ye had a pair,
The sheep be in yer movement
And the haggis in yer style;
All the hose of every tartan,
Well, they bow and ask their pardon,
For a dozen pair could never best
The Socks of Auld Argyll.

On a misty highland mornin'
As the bagpipes blew a warnin'
Thro' a country known for tightwads
Over many a country mile,
O, their stubborn thrift was bendin',
And their gold they a' were spendin',
Just tae get their toes inside a pair--
The Socks of Auld Argyll.

Refrain: repeat.

So me lairds if I could sell ye,
Such a bargain's ne'er befell ye,
Ye'll be glad that I did tell ye
When the wintry winds are vile;
When the fog an' frost ye battle,
O, yer knees'll never rattle;
Pull 'em up, and show yer mettle
In the Socks of Auld Argyll.

Refrain: repeat.
