Defensive and Defensive Special Teams Awards |
Most Valuable Defensive Player - Winner - Tommy Leaver; Runners up - Matthew Couto, Alex
Tommy proved to be the defensive powerhouse of the 2004 FFL season. Amongst the league leaders in interceptions, he also swatted away a huge number of dangerous passes and always came through with a last ditch tackle when his team needed it. His defensive coverage was outstanding, as he managed to subdue the very dangerous duo of Alex and Danielle on separate occasions. |
Top Cornerback- Winner - Tommy Leaver; Runners up - Matthew Couto, Alex
Without a doubt, the best defender in the FFL for the 2004 season. Never distracted nor intimidated, Tommy managed to break up a huge number of passes. Always comes up with a huge defensive interception at the right time. |
Top Kicker - Winner - Maciej Chabelski; Runners up - David, Danielle
With his deep and accurate kicks, Maciej caused a lot of trouble for kickoff returns in the 2004 FFL season. By placing his kick so well, he gave his defence ample time to react and set up a defensive stop. |
Best Steamboats - Winner - James; Runners up - Lenny, Danielle
With a penchant for not wanting to run, James functioned exceptionally well at the Steamboats positioning. Once the countdown had ended, James proved to be up to the task of chasing the quarterback until he or she had to throw the ball out of play. |
Most Interceptions - Winner - Matthew Couto; Runners up - Maciej, Patrick
Although his presence at games was not always a certainty, when he was there, he made himself known on the defensive end. His interceptions became so frequent that the quarterback was wary of throwing in Matthew's direction. Once he intercepted, Matthew was more than capable of getting awesome field position. A double whammy, if you want. |
Most Defensive Stops (During Game) - Winner - Patrick Chabelski; Runners up - Matthew Soegtrop, Tommy
Patrick proved to be at the right place at the right time. Because of his incredible positioning, he had the most defensive stops (ie. touching the person with the ball) in the 2004 FFL season. His speed and ability to sacrifice his own body for the good of the team made him a lock for this award. He also had the most fumble recoveries with one. |
Most Defensive Stops (During Kickoff Return) - Winner - Matthew Soegtrop; Runners up - Patrick, Robbie
It was quite common to have a kickoff return cut short almost immediately by Matthew Soegtrop. Because of his short stature and deceptive worming abilities, Matthew would tackle the player in their end zone before they knew what had happenned. Honorable mentions go to Patrick and Robbie, both of whom were capable enough to stop many returns before they got out of hand. |
Best Blocker - Winner - Robbie Soegtrop; Runners up - Tommy, Patrick
Robbie proved to be a team player on kick off returns. By successfully and frequently blocking the path of oncoming opponents, Robbie enabled the kickoff returner to gain more yards than he or she would normally have been capable of. Not intimidated by speed or size, as David Leaver would attest. |
Defensive Rookie of the Year- Winner - Alex Diamond; Runners Up - David, Lenny
This award is given to the player who was present at less than 5 games in the 2004 FFL season but made a lasting defensive impression. Alex takes yet another rookie award due to his ability to intercept and block numerous passes. Anyone covered by Alex had a difficult task of securing a touchdown, as he didn't let anyone score on him. One wonders how good he'd be had he played more FFL games in the 2004 season. |
Most Improved Defensive Player - Winner - Robbie Soegtrop; Runners up - Tommy, James
This award is given to the player who has shown the most improvement on his or her defense from the start of the year. During the first couple of games in the FFL, Robbie did little defensively. However, by the end of the season he had accumulated interceptions, caused trouble on kickoff returns, and was a constant danger on the blocking end of the spectrum. |
