Most Valuable Defensive Player - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Alex, Tommy.
Peter came out of huge obscurity to clearly win the defensive player of the year. After playing only one game 2 seasons ago, Peter reappeared on the FFL radar screens and brought his A game to the proceedings. A powerfully built, high pain threshold defender, Peter was not averse to the odd cement slide here and there, particularly if it brought the down counts in his favor. |
Top Cornerback- Winner - Tommy; Runners up - Peter, Alex
Tommy continues to provide the solid man-to-man coverage that is necessary for successful defence in the FFL. The Hand of Tom is still around, and once it comes out to deny a surefire touchdown, you'd better believe it's coming out again. Solid awareness a plus as weel. |
Top Kicker - Winner - David; Runners up - Maciej, Peter
Second straight year big Dave wins the award for biggest boot. Massive distance and superb accuracy goes a long way to securing good field position for your squad. Isn't afraid to mix it up a bit too; sends high shots in order for his squad to get in solid position and limit yards. |
Best Steamboats - Winner - James; Runners up - Graham, Tommy.
Seemingly no longer wanting to be a defensive stalwart as he was in seasons past, James has taken on the role of steamboats as something of a craft. Counts well, and possesses the speed and agility to catch scrambling quarterbacks after 7. |
Most Interceptions - Winner - Alex D.; Runners up - Maciej, Matthew Soegtrop Alex wins with 19, Maciej second with a close 18, and Matt S. third with a solid 12. Most Interceptions per game - Winner - Jordie; Runners up - Matt C., Matt S. Jordie stocked up 3 per game, Matt C. second with 1.8, Matt S. with 1.5. for third place. |
Most Defensive Stops (During Game) - Winner - Alex; Runners up - Patrick, Jacob.
Getting a two hand slap on an opponent sounds easier than stealing cake for a blind Chinese guy, but it's just so crucial. The stopping, not the cake-stealing. That's wrong. In any case, Alex picked up the award utilizing superb awareness and having a sense of where the defender is going to go. By the time the defender tries to stop and pull back, it's all over. 2 hander! |
Most Defensive Stops (During Kickoff Return) - Winner - Matthew S; Runners up - Jacob, James. Matt, although playing fewer games than years before, was usually the only person to really ever bother with kickoff stops right from the kickoff. Unlike his lackadaisical teammates, who waited until the opponents came to them, Matt always came to the opponents. |
Best Blocker - Winner - Peter; Runners up - James, David.
What, no Robbo brick, second year in the running? Peter, as aforementioned, simply does not let people past him. Has good lateral quickness and for the most part, avoids excessive fouling. Has solid awareness, knowing when to block, and can keep up with the likes of Johnny, providing moving blocks. |
Defensive Rookie of the Year- Winner - Peter; Runners Up - Jacob, David.
A no-brainer really. Peter simply plays defence, in so many ways. He is one of the major reasons why scoring was down in the FFL in 05-06, compared with the 2 seasons prior to it. And if one player can do that, that pretty much tells you how good he is. Honorable mentions go to Jacob for recording 9 interceptions, and Dave for being a big presence. |
Most Improved Defensive Player - Winner - Patrick; Runners up - Graham, Alex.
Patrick, although not profficient in terms of interceptions, plays flat out hard every time he doesn't have the ball. Doesn't have the best foot-speed, but positions himself legally for good swipe aways, or quick two-handed smacks if the pass is made. Was in some games, the best defender on the pitch, a definite improvement from a season ago. |
