2007-2008 FHL Awards
Garden Hockey League Awards
Participants - Patrick, Jordan D., Robbie, Neil, Peter, Maciej, James, Thomas, Alex J., Josh, Alex D., Jacob, Matthew C., Jordan T., Taylor, Cole, Ezra, Simon, Dylan, Bossman, Ben, Matthew P., Johnny, Luke, Pumpkin Jones.
Hart Trophy (MVP) - Winner - Josh; Runners up - Matthew C., Maciej.

Put the smallish Josh on a team, and the offensive action will flow.  Defensively, he also showed a lot of improvement, which also helped him win this award.  But scoring remains his forte, and he does it at will.  He also plays much bigger than his 5 foot frame would indicate, not afraid to mix it up in the corners.  Never gives up on a play, and has no real weaknesses to speak of.  And that's why he's the league's best player.
Norris Trophy (Best Defenceman) - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Neil, Patrick

Peter really took over as the league's best defenceman, taking advantage of a few slip-ups/no-shows by two time winner Neil.  Peter plays a safe, reliable game, and isn't afraid of anyone.  Ask any goalie and he'll tell you that Peter's the guy you want on your team, clearing out the crease and defending shooters.  And he's tough enough to block a shot and keep going.
Rocket Richard (Most Goals) - Winner - Jordan D.; Runners up - Maciej, Josh

Although he didn't score as much as in previous years, Jordan D. was still the only one in the league to get his goals in triple digits.  His knuckleball shot from the point still strikes fears in league goaltenders.
Art Ross (Most Points) - Winner - Jordan D.; Runners up - Maciej, Josh

Jordan D. became a lot less unselfish this year, and his assist totals flew through the roof, especially during the latter part of the season.  If you put him on a team with a sniper, he'll get his points, thanks to a shot that no one wants to get in front: not even the league's padded keepers.
Vezina Trophy (Best Goaltender) - Winner - Matthew C.; Runners up - Patrick, Taylor
A new season, three brand new finalists for the award.  Despite Pat's late season heroics, there simply wasn't a better goalkeeper in the league for as long as Couto was.  Great positioning and flair, as well as a penchant for the spectacular.
William H. Jennings (Fewest goals allowed) - Winner - Patrick; Runners up - Matthew C., Taylor

On average, Patrick let in fewer goals than his counterparts Matthew C. and Taylor, despite playing the most games at the keeper position.  His future looks rosy; he only started playing goalie this year, and he was already dynamite.
Frank J. Selke (Best Defensive Forward) - Winner - Jordan T.; Runners up - Maciej, Robbie.

A new season, and three new finalists.  With the prolonged absences of Alex D. and Thomas, the prize was up for grabs and Tingle took it with aplomb.  An incredibly hard worker who thrived on stealing the ball and then scoring points.
King Clancy (Leadership) - Winner - Patrick; Runners up - Maciej, Peter.

You may not get a more competitive player than Patrick.  Unlike his brother Maciej however, Pat keeps his temper in check and helps his team in any way that he can.  Always encouraging and a leader by example, Pat's always a top pick for any team.
Calder Trophy (Rookie of the Year - 2 or fewer games coming into 2007-08 season) - Winner - Jordan T.; Runners up - Alex J., Cole.

55 goals in 8 games played for Jordan T. in his first full season in the FHL should say it all, but it doesn't.  A dynamic talent, Tingle also showed a willingness to mix it up in the corners moreso than the other worthy candidates for the award.  He was also versatile enough to slot in at defender if needed.
Lady Byng (Gentlemanly Conduct) - Winner - Neil; Runners up - Robbie, Jordan T.

Despite a poor start to the season, Neil bounced back with an excellent second half, continuing to contribute to the league.  Neil kept his game clean but effective. Edging out former champ Robbie, Neil never injured anyone and rarely, if ever, got into an argument with an opponent or teammate.  A true gentleman, a true Lady of the Byng.
