5th Annual FFL Awards - 2007-08
Defensive and Defensive Special Teams Awards
Most Valuable Defensive Player - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Neil, Jordan T.
Best defensive player in the league
In a season where offensive players could do whatever they wanted, Peter made sure their life was a lot harder.  Led the FFL with 68 Hands of Toms and 18 sacks, adding a very respectable 8 interceptions in the process.  He also had his fair share of fumble recoveries, which he more often than not turned into points.
Top Cornerback- Winner - Jordan T.; Runners up - Peter, Neil.
Best wide receiver defender.
20 interceptions in 12 games should say it all, but it doesn't  Tingle, the MVP of the superbowl, was a force to recon with for all wide receivers.  Added 16 Hands of Tom in solidfying his place as the league's best wide receiver defender.
Top Kicker - Winner - Jordan D.; Runners up - Jordan T., Ezra
Best kicker in the league.
The Italian kickedd the ball with both accuracy and depth, giving his team a great starting point.  Not the sexiest position to play, but one of utter importance, Jordan made it his own throughout the season.
Best Defensive Lineman - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Neil, Taylor
Best QB rusher
18 sacks is nothing to shake your head at.  Ask league QB's, and they'll tell you that he's the last person you want to see bearing down on you.  Ask offensive linemen and they'll tell you the same.  All you can do with Peter is slow him down; there's no way to actually stop him.
Most Interceptions - Winner - Maciej; Runners up - Jordan T., Jordan D.
Maciej takes the gold with 23, both Jordans second and third with 20 and 19 respectively.
Most Interceptions per game (minimum 5 games played) - Winner - Jordan T.; Runners up - Josh, Corenton
Jordan T. finished with 1.6 per game, Josh second with 1.1 whilst Corenton finished third with 0.9 per game.
Most Hands of Tom - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Tommy, Patrick
Most blocks of a QB throw to a receiver.
Peter finished first with 68, Tommy second with 58, Pat third with 57.
Most Sacks - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Taylor, Neil
Most sacks of the quarterback, via flag swipe, two handed touch or tackle.
Peter tops out with 18, Taylor a close second with 17, Neil coming up third with 13.
Most Defensive Stops - Winner - Neil; Runners up - Peter, Tommy
Most two-handed/flag swipes/tackles during a game or kickoff return
Getting a two-handed slap is no easy thing to do, particularly as the FFL speed increases, and players develop jukes and spins to counterbalance onrushing defenders.  For the second consecutive year, Neil takes the award, with the two runners up identical.  Neil continues to bail out his teammates with incredible last ditch stops, making him a defensive life-saver.
Best Defensive Intangibles - Winner - Jacob; Runners up - Jordan D., Tommy
Smartest defensive player in the league.
Jacob always knows where to position himself, be it at the line or at his favored cornerback position.  Sees the plays, and lets his teammates know as soon as he can.  A good player to have running your defensive strategy.
Best Blocker - Winner - Peter; Runners up - Neil, Tommy
Player who has sets the most effective picks, or tackles the best.
Ever run into a block by Peter.  No?  Good for you.  Peter's wide body and short stature allow him to throw some of the most punishing hits ever seen in the league.  Single-handledly responsible for high FFL medical bills.  Impressively, he does it all legally.
Best Safety - Winner - Jordan D.; Runners up - Matthew S., Jordan T.
The player that played the best 'zone' defence during the season.
Everyone knows that the Italian stallion lacks the speed to keep up with most wide receivers.  However, he found a niche as a safety defender, racking up a massive amount of interceptions and hands of Tom.
Defensive Rookie of the Year- Winner - Matt P.; Runners Up - Corenton, Luke
Best defensive 1st year player, or player who has played less than 2 games the prior season.
In only 6 games, Matt left a lasting mark on the FFL.  Terrorizing opposing QBs was a specialty of his, racking up an impressive 10 sacks.  His play in the field was impressive, as he looked the part in every game.
Most Improved Defensive Player - Winner - Jordan D.; Runners up - Robbie, Ezra
The player that most improved on the defensive end.
Usually, when you've had Jordan covering you, you know you're going to score.  Now, it's not a sure thing.  Jordan developed an excellent interception game, that makes the QB weary of throwing in his direction.  Has a lot of football intangibles, and that helps his excellent positioning.
