Summary of the Scenes, the Characters; Ophelia, Reynaldo, Laertes, and Polonius .


Act 5, scene 1

Two gravediggers talk about the woman that will
be buried in the grave they are digging. She is a
gentlewoman but she committed suicide.  Hamlet
sees the Queen, King, and Laertes are part of the
mourning.  He sees it is a Christian funeral but it is
not on sacred ground.  When the Queen says I had
hoped she would be Hamlets wife Hamlet realizes
Ophelia is dead.  Then Hamlet and Laertes argue
about who loved Ophelia the most. 

Act 5, scene 2
Hamlet talks about how he escaped being killed. 
He tells Horatio about reading a letter the King
wrote to the King of England wanting him to kill
Hamlet. Hamlet tells Horatio the King killed the
true king took his wife and Hamlets birthright. 
Hamlet says he will duel with Laertes. Hamlet
asks Laertes to forgive him.  The King has wine
for them to drink with poison in Hamlet�s. 
Gertrude drinks Hamlets poisoned wine. Laertes
sword has a poisoned tip to also kill Hamlet. 
Laertes hits Hamlet with the poisoned sword. 
When the swords are dropped Hamlet picks up
the poisoned one and hits Laertes with it. When
the Queen says the wine is poisoned. Laertes tells
him about the plan to murder Hamlet and that Hamlet
holds the poisoned sword so Hamlet takes the
poisoned sword and kills the King.  Hamlet tells Horatio
that he is dying and to tell the story of what happened. 
Fortinbras comes and sees them all dead. 
When Horatio tells Fortinbras what happened he gives
Horatio military honors.
