Eric Smith founded Eric Smith & Associates, LLC to work with law enforcement agencies on the development and use of technology to streamline operations, as well as provide cost-effective security management services to business and residential customers. Training services are also available on a variety of topics, including loss prevention. As the lead consultant, Eric is responsible for project planning and management.
Eric has over a decade of experience in law enforcement and security services. Eric has worked as a Boulder Police Officer for over 10 years, where duties have included three years on a specialized team in a high-crime area, focusing on drug-interdiction. He has also served as a training officer for recruits, as well as a firearms and driving instructor for experienced officers. Eric was instrumental in developing a new service for citizens, allowing citizens to file certain types of police reports via the Internet, saving the department approximately $45,000 per year. He was later awarded with the department’s Unit Citation for his work.
Eric has written several articles geared to police management. Publications include Law and Order in May 2004, Public Management in July 2005 and Law and Order in December 2005. He has another article scheduled to be published in the March 2006 issue of Law Enforcement Technology.
Prior to joining the Boulder Police Department, Eric worked for Bloomberg Financial Markets where he started as a research assistant before moving to the journalism department as a multimedia producer. While at Bloomberg, Eric worked on new product development with international financial markets.
Eric has a Bachelor of Science degree in International Business and Marketing from the University of Colorado, where he also studied French, taking 28 semester hours.
