The Quick and Dirty New.Net Removal Instructions

For those who think the official way is too long

there are 2 clear ways to tell if newnet is behind your loss of web access
1. You can ping by IP but not by URL
2. If you type a URL into IE you get the error 'internet explorer could not open the search page'

newnets removal instructions are too fucking long winded...the quick and easy fix is

1. Remove TCP/IP from the network stack, DO NOT REBOOT THE PC
2. Take a backup of the registry
3. Completely remove the hkey_local_machine\system\currentcontrolset\services\winsock
2 key.
4. Reboot the PC
5. Reinstall TCP/IP, and reboot once more
6. Problem should now be fixed

obviously this is best done on 9x machines....all kind of complications can arise when dealing with NT systems

oh yeah and don't forget to disable zone alarm from msconfig before doing that reghack otherwise you'll get a VXD blue screen as soon as windows tries to start without TCP/IP installed
