Who could blame him? What happened would of happened anyway. He shouldn't of even been there. Who could blame him? He could blame himself.

John was supposed to be at school, but instead he took the day off to go swimming at Fort Yargo. The beach should of been empty. Most kids were at school and most adults were at work. But the beach wasn't empty. There was a girl.

He was setting up his own towel when he heard her screams for help. She was past the floats, farther out than she should of been and now she was in trouble. She was calling for help and he was the only one around to hear. He ran into the water but couldn't get any farther than waist deep.

He was paralyzed. Again. He wanted to save her so bad, but he couldn't.

He remembered his brother.

He remembered he was more coward than hero and he couldn't go any deeper.

She stopped screaming because she was under the water. He still wanted to try, to swim, to try but he couldn't go any further. She shouldn't of been out that far. She shouldn't of been there. Neither should he.

John took his towel and calmly walked back to his car. On his way out of Fort Yargo, he stopped at a phone and made a quick phone call. He left before anyone showed up and he was home eating dinner when he heard about the drowning on the TV. That shouldn't of happened.
