Synopsis: All hell is about to break loose in a sleepy New Jersey town when a sudden violent storm washes in more than the tide. The peaceful existence of a small seaside community will dramatically change forever when Christina Nickson is rescued from the ocean by local lifeguard Jesse Parker and brought to the home of local doctor Ben Kramer. The Kramers, including Ben's wife, Meg, and daughter, Judy, take an instant liking to Christina and invite her stay with them as she searches for clues to her past and attempts to find her mother, a Point Pleasant native whom Christina never knew. Unbeknownst to Christina, her presence in the town is having a profound effect on its inhabitants - awakening repressed feelings, unlocking secret desires and heightening emotions. As Christina seeks answers to her mother's disappearance, she will come to realize that she has never known her "real" father either - for Christina is the offspring of a mortal woman and the Devil. While Christina struggles to control the demon inside her (and the powers that come with it), the fight for her soul has begun and the town of POINT PLEASANT has turned into the ultimate battleground of good vs. evil. >> READ FULL RECAP HERE
Notes: -Original Ratings: 8.0/11 in the overnights. 11.68 million viewers. The show came out at #3 for the night. -This episode aired after American Idol, in FOX's attempt to attract teenagers to the series, hoping they would follow it to Thursday's in hopes to put a "dent in CSI's side". -The church Christina goes to has also been used on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Most notably in the fourth season episode "Who Are You?". It also may be the same church featured in the Miracles pilot episode. -The strange symbol in Christina's eye stands for 666 - the mark of the "beast" (Satan).
Review: I was so anxious for the premiere of Point Pleasant. I'm a nut for supernatural shows, and the promos for this show were incredible. I knew it was described as being sort of a supernatural version of The OC, but this episode was just too soapy, However, I didn't really think this until I saw the next episode, "Human Nature". In this episode we are introduced to the characters and the plot is set up. The feel is nicely creepy. My only major problems with this episode are: a.) the plot seems to move a bit too slowly, and b.) too much sex. I expected there to be sex, since it was on FOX and it's target is teens, but geez. One of the best scenes was in the church, when Harland is killed by the swarm of bees. (7/10)
