Wednesday Night Worship

Speaker: Walter Nusbaum
Worship Leader:

Key Passage: James 1:22-25

"The Bible"

I. Why is the Bible trustworthy?

1. Always proven historically/archaeologically accurate

2. Transmitted inerrently for thousands of years (99.5% perfect)
-We have 25000 copies or fragments of thhe NT that are 50-300 years after the original writing
-The closest copy to the original of Hommer's Illiad is 500 years later

3. Fulfilled prophecies

4. Only real reliable guide for our life

5. Shows faithfulness of God to man through the years

6. The Bible is the only "religious text" that shows man's true nature--that of an inherent sinful nature and corruption

II. Valuable Tools for Bible Study
1. Bible dictionary
2. Trustworthy Bible commentary
3. Big notebook and pen (to journal your findings)

Ask yourself these three questions when studying a passage of Scripture:

1. What did this passage mean back then? (the cultural and historical meaning of the text)

2. What does this passage ALWAYS mean? (the universal principle of the text)

3. What does this passage mean to me? (the personal application of the text)
