Doors open, lights flash and sirens wail, Speeding as they hope the patient Will prevail. Pulling up to the house, A woman comes running out. This is the victims spouse. Screaming and pulling on your arm Frantically trying to drag you in. Not knowing if this is going to be a battle you can win. Grabbing the gear, you step on in. Side-stepping furniture, As your life-support begins. Paddles are charged, Everybody steps clear, But you have a horrible feeling, That the patient�s end is coming near. Shock after Shock, Drug after Drug, Needles and tubes go everywhere. To try and bring back this man known as Doug. 10, 20, 30, 40 mins go by But there is still no pulse. Why do we try? The end has arrived. No more can be done. Time of death � 4:21 A wail is heard, Tears begin to spill, This is not the outcome anyone preferred. Equipment is packed up, Everyone turns and leaves, So that the family can wail and greave. The trip to station is quiet. No one says a word. Just quiet reflection. This is what is preferred. Return to base. LSU 442, backs through the door, Hoping for no more calls, No more. The team is together, They sit and talk, Wishing it turned out better.
