Background: Elsa Alvaretti was born to human parents in suburban Sydney, Australia. When Elsa was seven her family relocated to a rural Australian sheep farm, seeking to escape the violence and corruption of the cities. She grew up taking care of the family's animals and trying to keep her five-years-younger human brother, Brian, out of trouble. Elsa went on to study medicine at several Australian universities and almost got her doctorate. Brian, on the other hand, left home at 16 and ended up working for a crime lord named Jaxos Chieng. He managed to stay out of serious trouble until he screwed up smuggling run and had to dump his entire payload in the Pacific. Jaxos gave him a choice: come up with 150 million nuyen (easily 10 times the worth of the shipment) or die. Not knowing what else to do, Brian convinced Elsa to try bailing him out. At their meeting, Jaxos was impressed with Elsa's courage and determination, and struck a bargain with her. He would allow Brian to live if Elsa became a shadowrunner for his organization. She would pay Jaxos 95% of what she earned until the debt was paid off or until she died. She could have no contact with her family or friends during this time. And if at any time she tried to escape or otherwise double-cross Jaxos, he would kill Brian and everyone else she loved and extend her service indefinitely. After three days of deliberating, Elsa accepted the deal. She was given basic training as a covert ops specialist, outfitted with plenty of cyberware (against her will), and sent on her first run shortly thereafter. Since then Elsa has not seen her family, her friends, or the love of her life (an elf named Terin Isthiriel) and managed to pay off about 10 million nuyen of the debt. Lately Jaxos has been sending her on harder and more dangerous runs and making threats toward her loved ones since he enjoys watching her struggle. With every run her resentment toward him grows--along with her desire for revenge...
Description: Elsa's fellow runners know only that she is Australian, reserved, stoic, and very good at what she does. She is a loyal, hard-working part of any team and can certainly be trusted, but she prefers not to become emotionally involved with people. As soon as she pays off her debt she intends to return immediately to Australia, and making friends would only complicate matters further. She always carries three small photos: one of her family, one of Terin, and one of her friends. The best word to describe Elsa is "noble." She suffers in silence and does whatever she must to ensure a run's success, knowing she must survive the present if she is to have any kind of a future.

I thought her up during my summer job as a motel housekeeper; working
out her extensive background was a good way to take my mind off making beds and
scrubbing toilets! Sadly, I only got to
run her once before our Shadowrun campaign fell completely apart. Will somebody please help me start a new
one? I'm dying to play this chick!)
