Stanza 13
This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing To the fowl, whose fiery eyes now burned into my bossom's core; This and more I sat divining, with me head at ease reclining On the cushion's velvet lining that the lamplight gloated o'er, But whose velvet violet lining with the lamplight gloating o'er, She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Description
In this stanza, the speaker is beginning to get scared of the Raven. He thinks that the Raven is an omen sent from the reign of the evil dead. The speaker is also scared because he starts to think that this invader won't leave, and therefore will be there for all eternity, reminding him of Lenore. The speaker sat engulped by the thought of what the insane word, used by this supposed demon, "Nevermore," means. The speaker, after pondering for so much time, begins to recline backwards and gradually fall asleep.
