I traveled back to our meadow today, The one we used to go to. The one where we made our plans, Where we mapped out what we'd do.
We would pack our lunch that morning, And get an early start. We held hands on our way there, Promising we'd never part.
You would spread out our blanket, Our magic carpet to lie on. I would spread out our basket, And soon the food would be gone.
That's when we would lie back, And gaze into the sky. It was then that we would talk about, All our dreams and how we'd get by.
We'd laugh and share our secrets, Then you would take me in your embrace. Any doubts I ever had, You quickly began to erase.
Afterwards, we would begin to pack, Promising to come again. We would drive home in silence, Enjoying the day's end.
That seems like just yesterday, I think to myself while I drive. In reality, it was two years ago, When our love was still alive.
I pull up to our favorite place, Where all our dreams were made. I spread my blanket on the spot, Where we laughed and played.
I lie back now, looking to the sky, I close my eyes and reminisce. My heart is aching and wondering how, We ever ended up like this.
You made all those promises, I returned the same to you. Then you decided you wanted to be free, And experiment with something new.
I will always love you, And all the times we shared. This place will always be my haven, Where we came when you still cared.
