27 October 2005 - MW Battalion Battle - Germans (Defender) vs. Soviets (Attacker)
Scenario: Multi-Player Hold the Line
German Forces: Panzer Company x2, Panther (Kursk) Company, Gepanzerte Panzergrenadier
Soviet Forces: Tankovy Batalon x3, Strelkovy Batalon

Battlefield: 18' wide x 4' deep divided into three sectors for Multi-Player Hold the Line. The Germans deployed panzer companies in the flank sectors with the armoured panzergrenadiers holding the center. The Soviets deployed tankovy batalon to the center and left sectors with the strelkovy batalon on the right. The German Panther company was held in reserve for the Germans in addition to the sector reserve forces. The Soviets held a tankovy batalon in (delayed) reserve to reinforce the attack where necessary.

Summary: Things began to go poorly for the Soviets from the start of the attack. On the Soviet's left sector an early attempt to catch the Germans out of position ended badly when a platoon of Panthers arrived suddenly to blunt the rapid advance of the T-34 company. Further difficulty was had when two of three KV tanks broke down during the advance. The Germans paused to cleanup the last pockets of resistance before wheeling to advance on the flank of the center sector Soviets.

The center sector Soviets made some gains, but not without difficulty. After the initial advance to gain a clear line of fire to the German positions, German air power struck and destroyed several tanks. With more firepower brought to bear, the Germans slowly but inevitably grind down the Soviet forces before they manage to make it within striking distance of the objectives.

On the Soviet right, the infantry advanced under the cover of artillery fire that destroyed and bailed a platoon of Panzer 38(t). The members of the tank destruction platoon advanced their guns, and the assault gun platoon (SU-76i) advanced and fired on a lone Panzer III hiding in some factory ruins to no effect. Unfortunately the assault gun platoon didn't last very long, and the light anti-tank gun company didn't contribute a great deal as the panzers generally outmaneuvered  the guns. The infantry did well initially, but, after forcing their way into some ruins near the objective, the attack begins to stall. The arrival of German reinforcements and the collapse of the attack in the center and left sectors have left the infantry exposed, and the Strelkovy are forced to withdraw.
