Flames of War Sunday

Game Information

Players will create a mid-war period army that gradually builds from 600-points to 1500-points. The player's start by picking a theater, either Russia (Ostfront Intelligence Handbook) or the Mediterranean (Afrika Intelligence Handbook), and an Axis or Allied nation. Finally, a player has the choice between an infantry company, mechanized infantry company, tank company, or a number of unique companies that include Fallschirmjäger, reconnaissance companies and commandos. I will have my copies of the Intelligence Handbooks available at the December 3rd and January 7th events for new players to pick a force.

600-Point Battles

A great starting point for new armies and new players. A company HQ and a single combat platoon are all that's needed to play with enough points for improvisation with a weapon or divisional support platoon. Players may not include air support in this army.

Games are played quickly (less than 1 hour) on a 4' by 3' table. For an added dimension there will be a number of scenarios involving multiple players and armies, or special victory conditions and situations.

1000-Point Battles

The 1000-point army is an stepping stone from the 600-point army to a full 1500-point army. Players will add a second combat platoon with some additional points for fielding weapon and divisional support platoons. Other than the headquarters and two combat platoons, players have the option to modify their army to field different weapon and divisional support platoons from their 600-point army. Players may not include air support in this army.

Battles will take slightly long to play, and are are fought on a 4' by 4' tabletop. Players will fight a variety of one-on-one and two-on-two scenarios. Games are about 1½ hours long.

1500-Point Battles

The 1500-point army is the most common sized force in Flames of War. Games include all the elements of combined arms - infantry, tanks, artillery and aircraft. Plenty of new challenges await players at this size army. Official tournaments are fought using 1500-point armies.

Battles are fought on a 6' by 4' table, and will take between 2 to 3 hours depending on the mission.

Battalion Battles

Quite simply, a battalion battle involves multiple armies on the same, large battlefield. The size of the battlefield will vary with the number of players, and it will take anywhere from 3 to 6 hours to play.
