Podar Judo Club

                                                     Podar Judo Club was established in 1974 by Shri R. W. Patil, an outstanding competition player, having won many Gold medals at National, State, University and City level. Then he was student of R. A. Podar College, Matunga; he started class under the guidance of Prof. Palekar, Principal and Prof. Chandgadkar, Gymkhana Chairman. Today also with the same support from management, Principal and Gymkhana Chairman, classes are conducted at R. A. Podar College, Matunga.

Today, Podar Judo Club is known as one of the most prestigious club not only in Mumbai but also in India.

26 Judokas are Dan grade holders. 

We are proud that Ms Zarina Anand is the first woman to pass Black Belt examination in India and Ms Meenu Thapa is the first woman to Top the Black Belt examination.

10 Judokas are the holders of Judo Federation of India (JFI) - National Diploma in officiating. Shri R. W. Patil, is the only Judoka from India to pass the highest possible, 'IJF -  International' refereeing examination and Ms Meenu Thapa is the first woman in India and South Asia to become Continental women referee.

Many of our players are recipients of awards from the Government of India and Government of Maharashtra State, and have won scholarships from Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Government of Maharashtra State.

Shri Tilak Thapa, Shri Kul Thapa and Shri Jogesh Sharma are recipients of Shiv Chhatrapati award - highest award for outstanding sport persons by government of Maharashtra State.

Medals won at various Judo competitions has helped our players to get admission into prestigious educational Institutions and professional courses. Many of our judokas are employed with  Government/Semi government organizations.
