2006 Convention Notes

Youth Advisory Board Meeting
POAC Convention, Indianapolis
Feb. 25, 2006

Youth Present

Review
- Told youth that the Board of Directors had passed the handicap rider medal in October and recommended that we develop bylaws to organize the Advisory Board.

Bylaws
- Shane read the bylaws and explained them. No one had any questions or recommendations.

Gaming High Point Proposal
- This is a proposal to have year-end awards for each age group in Top Timed Event. The current award is Top Timed Event 18 & Under. This has been an idea from the Youth Advisory Board for a long time, and it was tabled in October because the Youth Advisory Board did not have bylaws.
- Harry Chestnut and Denny Brown were present to discuss this proposal with us. They felt that as long as we were going to find the money to support the new categories, then the awards would be able to be in effect by the 2007 show year.
- The youth did not want these awards to be traveling trophies.
- The price for sponsoring each award would be a little over $100 for the first place and second place trophies and the certificates for 3rd-6th places.

International Team Contest Proposal
- The Advisory Board came up with this idea last year since the World Show is no longer existing and the Team Competition was always a unique part of the World Show.
- The proposal would not add any classes to the International. Instead it would take the points from the classes that the teammates are already entered in.
- The youth present said that they liked the idea of the team competition.

Directors still needed
- Shane and Shalene pointed out that there are still some regions that are not fully represented by youth directors.
- Since this year is the first year, the official nomination policies defined in the Bylaws can not exactly go into effect. Shane said that volunteers would be appointed as directors for this year. Several people had already come to him before the meeting to express interest in being regional directors.
- Nikki Little became the third Northeast region director.
- Kylie Horrocks was added as the third Mideast Director.
- Jason Farrington, Joel Farrington, and Meg Belcher were added as Mid-America directors.
- Alex Tarazewski said that he could be unable to complete his term, so Tori Tarazewski took his place as a Midwest director.

Secretary Needed
- The new bylaws call for three officers; a president, vice-president, and a secretary.
- A secretary had not yet been chosen since it was a new position.
- Alex Tarazewski, Heidi Harper, Kylie Horrocks, Nikki Little, Nikki Daig, Andy Burger, and Amanda Reed were directors present at the time. Kylie and Nikki were interested in being secretary.
- Shane and Shalene passed out paper, and votes were cast by the directors present.
- Shane and Shalene counted the votes and Nikki Little became the new Secretary.

Special Events
- Someone asked if we would still be able to have the pizza party at the International.
- Mr. Belcher said that he would make sure we were able to hold a party and meeting in St. Louis.

Convention Meeting Time
- There was an issue this year with the scheduling for Convention.
- The youth who spoke said that after the Fashion Show would be a good time for the meeting.
- Someone suggested that since the adults have a little party after the Fashion Show that the youth should have a pizza and movie party following the meeting.
- We would need to make sure that the movie is appropriate for the smaller kids, too.

Miscellaneous
- Charlene Shingleton wanted to express appreciation that some states were developing state youth clubs. She felt that this is a big step in the right direction and will help the progress of the Advisory Board.
- Michele Payne said that we have come very far this year as far as developing the Advisory Board.
- Denny and Harry said that the Advisory Board is a major part of the Building and Promotion movement for the POAC.
- Shane and Shalene passed out cameras for Nicole Webel and instructed the kids to take pictures and turn them in so that the pictures could be in the magazine.
